How does something like the MP5 or Hatori SB17 make more power than any other 90 size pipe? And how much more power can one of these pipes actually make compaired to a "lower" performance pipe.

SHUT UP AND FLY!!!!

I'm no expert, but I do know that a 2-stroke uses some of the outgoing exhaust(or vacuum created while it's passing out of the exhaust port) to suck in more fresh air/fuel mixture.

The type of pipe will have a lot to do with that.

I'll let the experts handle any better explanations.

Actually, they use sound waves in the pipe to pull some fresh fuel out at the end of the exhaust cycle, and then RAM it back in before the piston finishes closing the exhaust port.

This makes the volume of air/fuel actually higher than the physical displacement of the cylinder... thus "supercharging" the motor.
Same principle on dirt bike exhaust systems, racing go-karts, and racing boats... all two stroke of course.

You only get the supercharging effect once a certain rpm is reached.. this is why "tuned pipes" are tuned for a perticualr rpm on specific displacement motors. Exhaust gas temp, and exhaust port timing also play a major role in it..

And don't forget having the proper glow plug for the ammount of nitro and the compression of the motor!

It's A LOT easier to adjust a tuned pipe on a plank or boat..
Those big spinning blades on the heli just seem to always bee in the way.
