ditto carl...

bret shouldn't be a cop.

Bret, I suggest you read a few posts up where I make an observation that:

Police departments need to train their police officers to better positively interact with the public. It is they who serve us, not the other way around.

It is becoming all too common in this country where, as you say, police beat now and ask questions later...

Ha, you are comparing Urban Chicago with Utah? hhmm...

The officer is not required to tell him that.
But if he HAD then we probably would not have seen this video. Bottom line, the COP is the professional here. I am sure he is trained to de-escalate an incident BEFORE the use of a tazer is needed. If the police officer had been more PROFESSIONAL, which is what he is getting paid to do, then this situation would have never happened. Did the guy break the law...absolutely. Did the cop take it WAY too far...ABSOLUTELY!.......Ron

The video evidence tends to refute that claim...

If it were up to Bret, simply asking the cop "how fast was I going" warrants being dragged from your car, beaten with a baton, tasered, and then arrested...

Seems the cop was itching to use his tazer "he took a ride with the taser"...then he says to the motorist "painful isn't it..." So it seems the cop was happy to inflict pain upon this motorist?

As was said about the woman who died in police custody here in Arizona last month; "A few words of kindness could have prevented this".

My opinion is that there was no reason for using lethal force. I can sympathize though because being a cop is a tough job, the situation can get real ugly real fast.
Thanks Ron for posting this video.

That is just gut wrenching. I felt so sorry for the little girl. When she started pleading "daddy" my heart sank, almost brought tears to my eyes. That to me was the most heinous crime committed on that day.

Re-listen to it Brett,

Actually from the video it sounded like it was the other way around. Sounded like the guy said "hi" to the cop and was ignored by him.

Edit:
Yup, just listened to it again the driver says "hi, I know I was going a little fast..."
Then the a-cop then interups him "I need to see your driver's licence and registration..."
Cop was a dirty pig, I really hope that bastard gets shot point-blank in the face.

.

With his own tazer

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I don't care!

Im happy the cop tazered him.
Your mother must be very proud.
If we handcuff the cops use or force when crime is committed we weaken society.
Yup. Let's not have any checks on this system at all. Shoplifting? Kill the bastard.
if he cop is wrong thats for IAD and the inspector general to deceide.
Yup. The cop can be judge, jury, and executioner if he deems that someone has broken the law or failed to obey. But when it comes to his actions it's all about due process.
Fer few cops kill citizens in the course of a crime but many cops get killed by assholes after routing interactions.
Cops have chosen a job that involves carrying a gun at work. It would be fair to assume that might involve danger. Going 40 in a 35 zone is a whole different idea. Incidentally, when you say "assholes" I assume you're referring to the citizens that you're sworn to serve and protect.

On an unrelated note, can you find me at least one sentence in this post not riddled with misspellings? This looks like every police report I've ever read.
What if that cop was your family member.
Thank goodness that would never be the case. Everyone in my family graduated high school.
The guy was probably wasted to boot.
Yeah.... that's the ticket... wasted... the dude was drunk, driving around with his family in the middle of the day, dressed reasonably well, walking and talking rock solid... wasted. Let's make sure that's reflected in the report.
By the way a tazer is not lethel force.
I see. No one's ever been killed by a tazer. And if you're going to kill the innocent civilians you're sworn to serve and protect can you at least do them the honor of spelling "lethal" correctly!?

EDIT:

I just went back to read some of your posts - but I gave up. I guess I have to find a cop to read this crap to me. It's so full of errors I honestly have a hard time following it.

Spelling, what a cheap argument and bogus personal attack. Did I spell bogus correctly? Anyone with a high school education can easily follow what he wrote. Is that sentence structure OK? Did you understand what I'm trying to say or should I reword it for you spork?

Hey lighten up Francis. It ain't an argument; it's an insult. I'm sure you can tell the difference.

By the way, your spelling is just fine. You even formed sentences. I don't have any trouble following a post with a spelling error here or there, but honestly, he barely managed a single sentence without multiple spelling errors. And when the spelling error results in a different word (of becomes or, the become he, etc.) it does make it tough to follow.
Anyone with a high school education can easily follow what he wrote.
Well I've got considerably more than a high-school education and I've gotta tell you - I find some of his stuff hard to follow. Don't get me wrong; the closed-minded hatred comes through loud and clear, but some of the detail and subtlety is tough to follow.
Did you understand what I'm trying to say...?
Yup. You think cops should tazer people for going 5 mph over the speed limit. To-may-to, to-mah-to.

Bret...

Police are Para military orginisations not social workers.
you forgot that cops are CIVIL SERVANTS first and FOREMOST!!!
Keep in mind that these are the same guys that will have to respond to your home if some lunitic crashes down the door. Do you want to take away the judgement they have over the use of force. What if a psycho or two broke in your home one with a kinife and hte other with a shootgun and grabbed your wife and someone called the cops, would you want the cop to stand there and tell him "now you put down that kinife and pull her pants back up or I am going to arrest you" Hell no, you want him to go Clint Eastwood on the son of a bit&%
this statement/paragraph is absolutely assanine. You are comparing going 5mph over a speed limit to a life threatening situation IN WHICH LETHAL FORCE SHOULD BE USED.
By the way a tazer is not lethel force. Its used in instances where force was necessary to avoid the risk of injury "like a crack in the skull with a club" Only in some rare cases did someone die as a result.
I see, tasers are not lethal? what is it?... 3 deaths in Canada this past month and a few more in the states? These videos and stories of people being tazed for minor crap and dying as a RESULT OF BEING TASED are all over the web. Last time I checked, a taser is to be used where it is a reasonable alternative to using lethal force...

its pretty obvious that lethal force was not required here. had the cop not been equipped with a taser, would he have pulled his gun and shot the driver for trying to leave or walk away? Nah.

Bret, you sir are an idiot of the highest order and a perfect example of the type of ignorant american that is ruining this country, not liberal or convservative crap. It's ignorance...

Stupidity can be cured. Ignorance is for life!
