I'm waiting on some other parts, but in the meantime i did a test fit of the upper frame to the lower frame and clutch is grabbing the bell. which will definitely cause some problems while starting worse releasing the rotor blade at idle.

Hmm let me do a search as i believe i came across this on a different post.

About time Hugh!

Haven't heard from you in quite some time! Were the parts on backorder from Century or something? Well anyways glad to hear you'll be getting back in the air soon.

Last night Karen had her first Reggar event, Squidly Cole from Portmore performed at a club in Providence. It was pretty cool and he did well.

Hey by the way, aren't you supposed to be in the US in August? If so when and where and coming to visit?

The trip had to be postponed until hopefully later on this year or next year

I may use the time thou to get the heli up and running

Spent the entire weekend trying to set my clutch run out, BTW big thanks to Billme for helping me out and taking the time to reply to my several panic PM's

I got the runout a bit less than 0.001 finally, my first try Saturday morning left me with only 0.002 but when i told Billme he asked me to try and get it lower, so this morning i did just that, thanks for the encouragement Bill.

Before i got this right i was having problem with the clutch grabbing i eventually after about 6.5 hours got a bit frustrated and began sanding the liner Anyway Next time take a break then come back to the heli, never get frustrated and continue working on your heli.

Along with the clutch issue, i was having a Crown gear tightness issue, but after loosening the pinion & clutch bearing block i was able to get everything together.

I also loosened the frame screws to make certain i easily got everything aligned properly.

Anyway i have No photos of the re-build but i decided to go take these photos of Wally's Redirect installed.

This is my Hack job on the shroud to fit Wally's Fan, one day i'll eventually make the edges smoother

I currently have my boom supports and tail control rod curing after epoxying the ends.
I also have the torque tube drive support bearing curing with epoxy as well.

Rebuild starts back on Tuesday, i'm making these items cure for 48 hours.

I have alot of cleaning to do as photos really show up the dirt and rust in some areas.
BTW i've added a Century V3 Muffler Finaly did away with the noisy Can.

Keep posted

FYI - for those of you that have the Metal Tail box and are going to purchase Century's
HEAVY DUTY TAIL BOOM 855MM - Predator Gasser /Gasser SE /Carbon Gasser
Part# HW6062BH

One end will have to be Dremel'd carefully down so that the tail box can fit.

On the link above Century states that if we are using this Boom we have to use smaller o-rings on the shaft supports, well for the same reason you'll have to modify the boom to fit the shiny tail box.

I wonder if Century now fits the smaller O-rings on the bearing supports seeing that they have stopped selling the thin booms? i'll find out tomorrow.

I’d say this is another hack job and I find it hard to believe that Century intended the customer to do this.

I have the NX Carbon kit (has HD boom), installed the metal tailbox upgrade and didn't have to do anything to make the box fit in the boom.

Is it possible the metal case was a larger OD before the new boom was produced? If that's true, I would spend the 60 or so $$$ for a new case rather than have to mod every new replacement boom.

I had to replace a boom on mine and had to "beat" the open case on. It was just a few thousands off. Sanding would have taken too long and Dremeling is hard to do without accidently going through a side.

I just figured what the heck, make it work. I actually just put the tail case down and tapped the end of the boom. It went on easily since the aluminum is so thin.

Well there you go a second customer with this problem, Tom i thought of taping the tail in but i didn't want to damage the boom, i used a worn high grit tool on my dremel to reduce the inner diameter.

My current metal tail box outer diameter is 19.62mm

The tail boom inner diameter is 19.52mm century's web site say the inner diameter should be 19.5mm, either way my metal tail box is larger.

I would love to get another measurement of the metal tail OD, does anyone have one laying around?

Well last night i got the boom installed with the metal tail, i had to relocate the boom support temporarily as in the crash i tore one of the mounting support on the frame. I've located it now on the lower section of that frame that bolts into the landing gear frame (photos to come)

After the install i'm hearing a sound from the boom so this evevning i'm going to take it down and check if anything came loose, i hope its not the bearing supports.

Turbogti,

My boom ID averages 19.60 and the tail box OD is 19.59. The tail box slides in very easily but there is no wiggle room.

Everytin is iree mon...

Depending on tolerances of the boom during manufacture, I may be feeling your pain if I fold my boom and have to replace it later.

Have you guys tried the yellow broom stick from the hardware store for tolerance fit? Someone used / posted about it here some time ago...

Well she done!

Got the new Rototechs 720mm in fitted my hori & Vertical fins the only thing that is left is the tail control rod and to check my setup on the links.

Hopefully i'll start her up Saturday and check for shakes and blade tracking.

I have another order to put through as i've used up most of my spares, also i'm going to pull the engine (Easier now since i removed the cross bar from the frame) and reverse the one way bearing to get her ready for the JEWEL.

Photos to come

I also have emailed Century RE: my tail boom tail housing fit, i'll look out for a response in 2 days.

These photos show the modified/relocated boom supports location. If you look closely you'll see the damaged original mounting point for the boom supports. Also a nice shot of the Damaged V3 muffler, i got this at a discounted price.

This is another shot of the cut out for Wally's (CAP) fan installed.

For reducing the ID wall thickness of the boom, wouldn't a small diameter hone work well on a drill or Dremel? It seems that this would take a more even cut around the ID with less chances of going through. They are pretty inexpensive at the auto parts shops.....
