I don't think so. It got like that after I installed the OS. I had a few people check my Knight before it flew its maiden flight with the YS50, including a pro.

I am wondering if perhaps your YS engine was mounted at a slight angle, causing the tight gear feeling due to the starter shaft not fitting right in the clutch one way. This could have also caused the extra stress on the crank shaft rod, eventually shearing it.

I first mounted my YS 50 with this problem. It was caused by my shim for the crank shaft holder. I had placed a extra shim made from a zip tie under the OS shim to make it fit the YS, but it was not evenly distributed, causing the crank shaft holder to pull the engine to an angle. The main gear felt tight, and the one way and starter shaft were busted after 3 flights. With the proper YS shim, it fits great.

EDIT: probably unlikely, since you say the gear tightness was with the OS engine, and not the YS.

Karl.

Got my YS50 back from repair today and I'm one very happy camper.

Time to pull the OS Hyper 50 out and put in a real motor.

Anybody want to buy a 1 tank flown OS Hyper 50?

Seriously now Brovic The OS motor is not that bad. At your Skill level I can't really seeing it be that big of a deal. I might be wrong but I have my reservations...

Having both a YS and an OS is 'priceless'... either in two helis, or one as a backup.

You can't beat the OS in easy of setup, plug and play. The YS required a little more patience and tinkering, in my experience. I am glad the OS was my first and the YS my second engine. I have both running well on two different helis. The YS on a Knight 3D.

I know the OS Hyper 50 ain't bad. I just like messing around. What good about the OS Hyper is that parts for it are stocked everywhere unlike the YS50. But if you want raw power, then you can't beat the YS50. I saw a guy fly a Trex 600 Nitro on a perfectly tuned YS50 and I couldn't believe my eyes. Now image it on a Knight 50 3D!!!
