Finally got my Pantera 50 built and am ready for maiden. I went through all the flight checks. I'm running a stock setup with OS 50 hyper, MP5, GY401 & 9254, woodies, stock servos (DS821) that come with the DX7 for cyclic and throttle. I checked and double checked everything. Then for no reason at all, I decided to double check to make sure the stock servos I had would work ok.

To my horror, I found thread upon thread of these servos failing. Apparanty these servos are NOT rated to have the vibration a 50 nitro or higher can put out. There is even a blurb about it on the spectrum website. In any event, if anyone like myself is using these in a 50 size nitro or higher, you'll need to upgrade your servos ASAP.

That being said, what are some good CHEAP servos that will do the job without fear of breaking. I'm a beginner sport flyer (Circuits, Loops, rolls). Not into 3D yet. Thanks for the help.

Hi Kovar,

I know it hurts to shell out money for servos, but I really think that it's one of those you can pay me now or pay me later sort of things. DS821s go for about $25 per servo. Futaba 9252s go for $75. That's an extra $150. However, you can spend more than that on a single crash.

I put a DS821 on the throttle on my TRex thinking that there was no load so it would be all right. It failed hard over in less than three gallons. I was lucky to get it down as I was inverted when the engine died.

Get the 9252s for the cyclic. You won't regret it. I had some pretty good fliers saying that the 3151 would be fine on the throttle so that's what I went with. The 3151 is only $20.

Good luck and keep 'em flying.

Thanks for the input. The HS-635HB looks like a a decent servo for the price. Anyone have any problems with these?

Hi

Sorry to hear about the threads on your 281s failing. Were they stripped or were the screws just loose?

Thanks

kovar,
I would highly recommend getting some Futaba 9252 servos which can be had for $62 each.

naked painter,
> Sorry to hear about the threads

He meant threads here on RR, not on the servos themselves.
