I read that some experience good battery life, others maybe no so. Others have changed the linear regulator to a switch mode on the DX6 with improvement. Will the DX7 also be improved with the regulator swap?

The DE regulator only makes a difference when being used in DSM mode (AR6000). When using it with DSM2 RXes, there's no signifcant difference.

I did the modification and then had to send my DX7 in for work. Horizon didn't technically have to do anything for me under warranty - but they treated me well.

In my opinion, the risks outweigh any benefits.

As already stated, buy a larger TX pack and skip the modification.
