Hi Eartaker

You can use lesser servos on the 401, but the results you get will vary. I have seen many new starters at our club who have 401 with lesser servos, who upgrade the servo soon after starting, which is a more expensive way of going about it than buying the servo in the first place.

or another way of looking at is

would you buy a Ferrari and use remould tyres?
would you buy a Synergy N9 and fly with wooden blades?

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...&I=LXFAA7&P=7 I have this RX and when I bought the package it came with 5 servos and I'm not sure if they are digital or not, I'm guessing they are analog witch makes me unhappy but its okay for now. if they are analog and I want to use the 401 gyro do i need an analog servo or does it have to be digital? In this case would I need a different RX? I want to keep the RX I am using now and use this 401 is this possible? I also want to use my current rudder servo witch is a blue bird BMS-621MG

My Raptor 30, no longer owned by me, still flys with basic analog servos on all but the tail, where I used the 401 and the matching servo, at the time a 9253. The setup you are describing is exactly what I used (apart from the tail servo), which was fine until you want to start pushing it, at which point I upgraded to a 50, and sold my 30.

The Rx doesn't care what kind of servos you are using. That Blue Bird servo will probably work ok.Just learn to fly the tail. Save up for the faster Futaba.

Only the gyro connects to the receiver, the tail servo connects to the gyro only, so the receiver will be fine. Just remember to set the DS switch on the gyro correctly, on for a matching servo, off for other servos, this reduces the frame rate of the signal going to the servo and if set on will burn out lesser servos.

Sweet im glad to hear this will work.... im just now starting forward flight. I was practicing pirouette's the other day and the heli just decided to stop about 70deg into the spin...I spun it back around real quick and regained control.... broke the landing skid though. guess i was lucky thats all i broke. This made me want to get rid of this Ikarus micro gyro and go for something better.

I like the 3400g for a 450 or 8700g for a larger heli by jr. This is the servo I run with the 401. Only my opinion but I have flow a range of servos and I like it the best
