Hey RunRyder

As my subject states I just bought a new r/C helicopter after I flew in a real chopper. I have never flown one before or have ever seen one up close but the you tube vids on these r/c's look like a lot of fun. It came with a simulator package so I thought it would be a safe purchase. I paid 75 dollars and shipped for another 40 dollars.

alright the reason why I am putting this post in here is I wanted to know how to upgrade the battery from the NiMH Battery to a Li poly 1800 battery ( I would like more than just 10 mins of flying time). I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm new to the R/C world and I'm not sure if batteries are universal or maybe I don't need to do this. Any support will be GREATLY APPRECIATED !!!

Thanks for viewing and replying

I would highly recommend that you do some reading on lipos as they are not your average battery and mishandling can result in more than just a heli lost.

10 minutes flight time is a good average for electrics.

Consider purchasing a second NiMH battery rather than a lipo as you would also need to purchase a charger for the lipo as well...adding to the cost.

Lipos are lighter than nihm and could also offset the pre-balanced heli especially if this model does not allow adjustment for such.

Welcome to an addicting hobby!

Best of luck!

You can use any 2 cell lipo..This will increase your flying time to lets say 15-20 mins.,,But you wan to watch your electric motor because longer flight times equal shorter life for your motors..You also would have to buy a lipo charger..So maybe a 2nd nimh pack would work fine for you...

Thanks for the input!! After researching Lipos and reading what was posted in this thread I think I will just stick to the basics by getting another nimh pack. I know nothing about electric heli's so I won't make this anymore confusing for myself.

Thanks!!

Yes you're right pistol pete I'm already researching a T-rex 600. i never thought this sport could be this fun. As a newbie do you think I should purchase a spektrum 6 or 7 transmitter?

So many questions to ask....

Purchase the DX7 you will need it for your 600 if you go that way. By the way a fellow newbie I'd be happy if I could keep up the intense concentration it required to really fly around for 10mins. I'd go for the option of a second battery rather than trying to extend your flight time. You will need a break after 10 mins and so will the motors. Just my opinion. If you go lipo now you will waste your money unless you buy a charger that can charge the larger lipos as well.

To be honest I would get the best radio you can afford..I made the mistake of buying cheaper,,,I endend upgrading quickly and ended up with a spare junk radio..The dx6 and 7 are nice..I would go with the dx 7 if that is your only choice..People are going 2.4 ghz crazy and I would bet you could pick up a nice used 72mhz system cheap...

The flight time you get with the stock nimh should be good enough. Walkera 4 uses tail motor and tail motor is easily burn when it gets too hot. To me, the factor that limits your flying time is the tail motor temperature.. Many people buy a few tail motors as a spare because tail motor burning happens everywhere. Lipo also provide high current and makes me worried whether the tail motor can handle it or not. Do more reading regarding this model.
