The Switchglo is an awesome unit. It is small and very easy to set up. You can set it to a switch on your transmitter and toggle the switch to turn it on and off. Once activated, it stays on for 10 sec. than shuts off automatically. I just put one in my Knight 3D and couldn't be more pleased with the easy set up and use.

If the Switch to glow also included a Regulator & not just an igniter, I would have tried it, but $80 was a little to high for me.
I went with the Align 2 in 1 Regulator/Igniter

I have to push a button to activate the igniter for 15 sec, but works great for the cost.
Still don't own a Glow driver!!

and one more thing "DON'T BE AFRAID!"

Jon, may need to watch out, there are a few reports here that for some reason, the grow igniter on the Align BEC drains the battery during flights. FYI

Switchglo vs 2-1

The switchglo is more expensive than the 2-1, but the 2-1 is not all that reliable. Do your homework and search for the topics on 2-1 lockout problems. I have 2 of these devices on each of my helis and both helis locked up causing crashes. The cost of parts was more expensive that the 2-1 itself. I hear some pilot have no problems and love it and some do and regret connecting it.(Not a Reliable product) So now I've unpluged it from my receivers and just use the auto glow system. Haven't had a lockout in months. The con to doing this is the added weight.

I have a Switchglo. I am very, very happy with it. I got mine at the So Cal Classic for $60. The only thing I dont like is you are limited to just 10 seconds of golw time. I think you should be able to control the time.

Like a lot of things in this hobby, the good stuff aint cheap. And if you consider I have it in one of my scale helis and saves me a lot of trouble trying to hook up a glow ignitor, its was worth it. And if you also consider it "may" save me from a flame out - which "may" lead to a crash, I say it is money well spent... -Steve

Switchglo

I'll chime in with my success installing a switchglo this week. I had to make a long walk to the flight line at an event this weekend and I simply toggled the switch to keep my slightly rich and new engine from loading up while wallking two flight stations down to secure a flying spot. It worked like a dream.

I have mine installed with the DX7, AR7000, ATG, and GY-601.

I have no problems with the 2in1 here. I think alot of problems are all in the setup and location of parts in the setup. Yes there are bad parts out the no matter whos they are so just check everything over every now and then. What works for one person might not work for the next, thats why there are more than one brand to choose from. If there was a perfect one there would be no others.

I will have to second to what Morris said.

I have 4 Align 2 in 1 Regulator and one of them was draining battery like heck. And after a full inspection, a ignition button was to blame. I kept the glow plug on for the whole flight and my battery would only last 3 flights. But apart from that, the rest are working perfectly fine.

Rodney,

I too am using a DX7 with AR7000 rx. I am using a Y lead with a servo reverser for the Switchglo. The Y is plugged into the gyro gain channel (Channel 7 - Aux 2 for me). Without the use of a reverser when I would switch the heli on. the Switchglo would also turn on. The reverser is needed because the Switchglo activates on the positive side of ATV's. This allows me to power up the heli with the Switchglo off and the gyro in heading hold. When I am ready to light it, I toggle the gain switch down and it turns on the Switchglo but also puts the gyro in normal/rate mode. This isn't a big deal for me becasue I only fly in HH mode.

Switchglo

My setup is very similar to EZ's, only I am using the governor channel instead of the gyro gain channel. My ATG is plugged into channel 7 and my gyro gain is on the gear (5) channel. I also use a Y splitter and a servo reverser.

When I power up the switchglo is off.

Flipping the switch to activate will change the rpm setting on the ATG from my preferred 1950 to 2050. Remember, the switchglo needs to see a positive side of the channel to activate. I have it installed on the negative side but the servo reverser makes it appear to be positive. The governor also only reads from the positive side. The governor was always off on the negative side of the switch but it now sees a positive signal in both switch positions due to the reverser. Check the rpm of the governor on the switchglo side of the switch. I never engage the switchglo while in flight, but if it did I would have an additional 100 rpm. While starting the heli the governor never reaches that 70% engagement point so sharing channels with the Y splitter is working great.

I also have a switchglo and like it a lot.
To bad you need one one each machine to really make it worthwhile.

I have it sandwiched in the tail servo slot of a 90SE, mixed to aux3, such that it comes on when the aux 2(gyro) switch is set in the center position on my 9303.
A year ago I added a beeper to my Radio South glow igniter so I don't have to shade LEDs in the sunlight to know if the glow is lit; The switchglo does this as well, so there's no cranking the engine over if something is not right.

What I don't get is the 10 sec on time. If you wanted glow during autos or long walks to the flight line, this won't cut it!

Switchglo with GV-1/Dx7

Using DX-7 and gv-1:

Plug your switchglo into the gv-1 mixture slot. Turn the whole system on, flip the idle up switch up and then down to normal. The switchglo will turn on for 10 sec. No y cables needed.

When the switch is in idle up it will not glow so you can't have a hot start. It will only turn on when the switch is flipped to normal.

Sorry it's taken me so long to post this.

I use the newer version of the Align 2 in 1 Regulator with glow and it works awesome. I like the fact that the the Align has an LED that give you an idea of how much you've used your battery two. You can't beat that.

Vic,

I use the regular Align 6A 5.8v regulator and the SwitchGlo. IMO I think the SwitchGlo is easier to use. You assign to a switch on your transmitter and then simply flip the switch to activate it. It stays on for 10 sec and then shuts off. It also emits an audible buzz to let you know that it is activated. You can even activate it while carrying your heli to the flight line to help burn the excess fuel while the engine is idling.
