Hi guy's, I have this old Hirobo Huey 1/7.4 witn a HGE-20EH, one this engine and the Vario engines they both have this kind of air cowling sys that the B.H. Hanson engines don't have. Do I need to fit one around it, or does it run cool enough that we don't need a air cooling sys?

Thank!

I used to have one of the old Hirobo Hueys. You will need the cooling system. The Hanson engine will not last long without cooling and neither will the newer g231PUH or G260PUH engines. The new engines run good but without cooling they will die very fast. Most of all since it is a scale body and the engine will be working hard and making plenty of heat. If you are looking for a power upgrade you would be better off seeing if the Vario engine will fit. Seeing as the drive train in the Huey is a sealed wet gear box that bolts directly to the engine adapting one of the newer Zenoah engines to fit would mean some machining of parts to get it to work. You would have to come up with a way to use the Huey clutch system and adapt the gear box to the newer engine as well as come up with a fan and fan shroud system as well as a way of mounting the pull starter or another method of starting it seeing as the Hirobo Huey does not have a start shaft system. I am not saying it is impossible but it would be a lot of work.
An interesting fact I found out about the HGE-20EH engine when I owned my Huey was that Echo engines here in Canada made a industrial engine identical to the Huey engine.
