I've been flying for a few months now, and its been fun but expensive. I'm now at a point where most of my crashes have been due to poor judgement (flying when it's too windy; too dark) than a lack of basic skills. So now I'm beginning to ask myself the question: how often will I crash in the future? Not too much, I hope, as I can't afford it!

So a quick poll -
1) How often do you fly
2) How long have you been flying?
3) How long was it since your last crash?
4) What were you flying at the time (size).
5) What type of flying were you doing at the time (e.g. scale; 3d; sport).
6) What caused your last crash? (e.g. dumb thumb error; poor judgement; mechanical failure; radio failure). Perhaps a short description would be in order.
7) How much did your last crash cost?

If I get a good response, I'll run through the replies and see whether I can build up a bigger picture.

It depends on the size of the heli for me. CX, crash every day because I fly it around the house, sometimes chase the cat (who always wins). As for my gasser, about once a month due to mech failures, which are almost always my fault !! The gasser gets flown every other day for about 30 mins.

wlfk What heli are you flying ??

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Never mind the crashes or expenses of repairing your heli. Just do it for the love of flying it! The day will come when you rarely crash and all the investment will be well worth it. Then you can really buy those Top of the line helis.

Last year my R50 tail boom was red, it has faded to pink.

Flying over a year, Trex450 and now also Lepton.

I am at the point where I can comfortably fly and not crash, as long as I take it easy. The crashing starts when boredom sets in. Flying the same moves gets old, so I want to try new things. That leads to crashing

Last crash was doing my first loops. Crash before that was learning circles. Both in the last 30 days. Before that I went perhaps 100 flights without a crash, doing lazy eights and hover orientations.

To me the worst part about crashing is the rebuild and setup time, and second the lost flying opportunities. Parts are relatively inexpensive, so it is not a major factor.
