Yeah, thats like asking who makes a better car, Ford or Chevy. There are many answers depending on your personal prefrence.

There is no straight answer.

Spend your money and hope for the best. If you don't like what you got, then buy the other one, and see if you like it. In fact, why don't you be the test pilot. Buy the Hanson, run it for 50 hours and get back to us. Then buy the TRM engine, run it for 50 hours and get back to us.

This will only cost you an extra five hundred dollars, well not that much, but it will be for a good cause... US.

You want the easy answer. Do the work and have some fun with it.

I bought the TRM. I'm going to run it to the ragged edge, and if it blows up, I'll run the Hanson... to the ragged edge. WTF it's only money.

Flyon....maybe you can fund the cause. I still live in the basement at my moms house. Would you mind donating a few bucks to help me find the best engine?

And Gyro....you must admit....between the two engines....one is better. and one works better with the stock settings of the Spectra G

About the time you get fifty hours, on whatever engine you choose, you should be able to save up another five hundred dollars. Heck, you'll save that in fuel, compared to nitro fuel, so please don't give me "I live in my mommy's basement".

The best engine for you will not be the best engine for someone else. Sometimes this stuff is more art than science.
I predict trouble ahead when you tune your engine. Your going to ask "what are the perfect needle settings" and you'll have to figure out that yourself, because there is no perfect needle settings. Each engine is a little bit different, each helicopter setup is a little bit different.
I have yet to rebuild a helicopter where the setup was exactly the same.

You're not going to get the raw data you want. These engines are simply to simple. There is not enough variables to make huge differences.

Remember: Sometimes this stuff is more ART than science.

No, I don't admit that one is better than the other, I will side with FLYON that it would take a tremendous amount of testing, then what do you test for, duribility, power, ease of tunning, ??????.....

This is how I choose my engine, which is statically scientific.

I flipped a coin. Heads for the Hanson, Tails for the TRM.

I got the TRM. Next engine will be the Hanson, just to try something different, and see if it's any different for ME.

This is for a Spectra, BTW.

Guys relax!, In my opinion we both build good engines. It's a matter of taste, Al has his followers and I have mine. I am very proud of my engines and of my customers and I am sure Al is as well. Would I like to have you run my engine? sure but do what is best for you. My engine mods were designed for MA with 3d in mind so it is taylored to it but Al's motor seems to perform just fine just don't turn it up past the recommended rpm he set's. If that won't get the headspeed you need or desire then you have another choice. Either way I don't think you will go wrong. Peace, Toxic Al(TRM)

I think this would be a little off the topic but I would just want to ask Toxic Al re the specs of his engine.

Toxic Al: Are your engine design also for other helicopter aside from Spectra G? what will be the best suited gear ratio for your engine and what is you projected HP. thanks in advance.

I just got a toxic motor from my local hobby shop. Putting it in my new spectra. Sounds like a great combo.

Hi guys,as far as the specs go that is a heavily guarded secret. LOL all kidding aside the motor was designed for the spectra gear ratio but it works fine from 6.43 and up. the rpm level it was projected for is 11,500-13,250 but it has been run up to 13,750. the 231 was designed for 3d but is suited for other apps as well. I developed the 260 to handle the lower ratios and lower rpm range. the 260 will pull down from 10,500-12,500 and is brutally torquey. the motor has not been tested in the spectra in 3d status but i am sure the motor will rev higher without vibes.Hope this helps. Peace Toxic Al
