Anyone know if the Canon 40d SLR camera have a live video out? For use with video downlinks when taking aerial photos.

Live View Function can be used remotely via a computer through the EOS 40D's USB connection, or wirelessly or via Ethernet with the Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E3A attached.

Does the 40d have a regular video RCA output that you can plug into a camera mount's downlink transmitter? What about another brand of SLR camera that has a live video out?

Ok, after doing some searching I see how people are using SLR camera's. They are mounting small video cameras looking into the camera's eye view finders. Any one got some close up pics on how they do this mod.

If you google around there is a company that makes them all set up and ready to go. I 'll see if I can find the link again, they have a nice set up for the canon 5d and others. It slips on the eyepiece, you can make your own but when I saw this set up I just bought it.

Is it really more practical to use small video camera attached to the viewfinder than using a live video output the camera already has?

I have a 40D and you DO get a live video feed from the video-out port on the camera when in LiveView mode. However, unless you set the focus to infinity, you will need to press the 'AF-ON' button to focus. This drops the mirror back to its original position, allows the AF sensor to do its thing before flipping the mirror back up to let light onto the main sensor again. Whether this can be controlled remotely I'm not sure (without the clumsy use of a servo).

Hope this helps

Bungee,
Any luck finding that link to the eyepiece camera set up. I tried googling with no luck. Thanks for your help.
