I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to set up the subject gyro with a DX7. The software offers 3 receiver choices - Futaba, JR, Logitech. Anyone know if/which type matches the DX7 receiver? How do I get the gyro sensitivity set to the gear switch on the transmitter?
I hate to sound stupid, but I only speak hillbilly and redneck. These manuals aren't written in either

Thanks,
Lance

Just set it to JR, and use the gyro menu in the DX7.
Its sooooo much easier than fooling with the gear channel.

Gear --- Aux 2
INH --- Gyro

Go into the gyro sense screen, and switch the gyro menu to F-Mode
0= rate mode
1=Tail Lock

Your gyro is set to be controlled by the flight mode switch.

So many pilots use the gear channel, I just cant understand why, when Spectrum provides a menu for it.

Remember its what you see on the Gyro screen that is the actual gain. You set it up in rate mode with 50% gain to find your neutral center,in normal and st 1 and 2. Then set it all to Tail Lock and your done

Logictech 6100& Tail lock problem

I have this gyro in a Hurricane 550 and set it up in NORMAL (RATE) mode, on switching to Tail lock mode the servo will not return to neutral after deflection in any direction.
Luckily I tried it on the ground

Using Spektrum DX7 radio with 7000 RX
TX Settings: input select Gyro to AUX2
Gyro Sense Rate mode(0) is 35%
Tail Lock (1)is 52% or higher

All the trimming flights and settings were done in Rate mode as per the instruction book and test hovers in that mode were good

Now when I want to fly in Tail Lock mode the tail rotor stays where ever it is deflected too. Yes I have tried flicking the mode switch(rudder Dual rate on the Spektrum DX7)but the neutral setting just seems to be NOT there, In Rate mode it always returns to neutral

Do I have a faulty Gyro or am I missing something in my set up.

Urgently need help, PLEASE

The is expected behavior for heading hold gyro's. Just fly it!

Yep, he's right. It seems wierd until you think about it. In Heading Hold mode, it is expecting the heli to change direction. Since it is on the ground, it does not change direction, and the tail blades remain in position.

Just make sure when you turn it on that it initializes and goes to the center position. This gyro takes a long time to initialize.

Another thing to add. After you set the servo limit up in rate mode, you will need to reduce the limit for Tail Lock.

And I really like the Gyro setup menu in the DX7, useing the flight mode switch. I set all the modes to RATE 50% and trim for mechanical center and then set all to Tail Lock and go.

Thanks for the replies, I have a lot to learn about Gyros, they did not exist when I first flew helis in the early 1970's and now at age 85 I am finding that flying a chopper is easier than it was then. Throttle and Pitch curves were not heard of and some primitive gyros were appearing in the mid 70's.

In tail lock mode , after initilising on the ground, does the Gyro always bring the heli back to the original heading even if some rudder input has been given to change direction or will it maintain the new heading?

It will stop the tail wherever you release the rudder.
