Maybe I just got lucky but I have been running the plastic stock fan with magnets and have not had a problem. I have a Align metal fan but have not installed it as yet. So if you don't have a metal fan you could try the plastic one.

I was running the stock plastic fan, but replaced it with the 3DX fan.

When I removed the old plastic fan, you could see where the sensor was rubbing on the fan. There was a very light score mark across about half the fan. I don't think that I would have ever thrown a sensor, but....

I recess all of my magnets in the holes.

the new align metal fan looks pretty nice, I personally run the G-force fan, not the high output one either and it works awesome. Although the Align one looks a lot lighter, that may improve engine response but the heavier fans usually help the engine idle smoother which is important when doing autos

any chance your sensor was mounted too close when it scraped the fan?

I was running the plastic fan without problems but had the G-Force HE fan so when I had to fix something else on the heli, I replaced the fan. It turns out that I threw one magnet but luckily it was the one that didn't trip the sensor.

But the next flight with the G-Force fan and no other changes, the engine overheated and I blew a hole in the piston.

I have the new Align metal fan which is very nice. It is very good quality and I know it will push more air than the original G-Force HE fan. (I'm sure the SHO is better).

Plus, the Align fan is only like 20 bucks!

Yup! The $20 route is very nice.

I heard it was lighter also and in this case will limit any power robbing.

The align metal fan looks very nice, I'm trying mine out this weekend. I had some probs with my first fan hitting the sensor, but I've been using another one for about 20 flights with no problem. I've moved my sensor a long way from the fan now (like 2/16". The stock fan must deform when being run up. Align has also came out with a "stronger" plastic fan but I haven't seen or heard anything about it yet.

Now it comes with one magnet in it. Is that used for counter weight? I will be using an ATG on it.

Why do you say it come with one magnet now? According to the Align web site it still comes with two.
●Metal Engine Fan(Φ20xΦ64x13.8mm) x 1
●RPM Magnet(Φ4x1.6mm) x 2

Hummmm, I am going to have to look at it again when I get home. I looked at it this morning and thought I only saw one, could be wrong though.

Now if there is two like the deal says, I heard there are two different colors. Which way should they be installed? You guys use 30min epoxy for it?

Thanks,
Jay

The Align metal fan should comes with 2 magnets. Mine has black mark on magnet. I use two to get it balance, be sure one is correct polarized. Use govornor to see one not two then put 30 mins expoy. Cheap and work flawlesy!

My Align came with 2 magnets. They were stuck together as to magnets in bag will tend to do.

Cool, that might be what I saw then. Need to open the package to check when I get home.

Now I just want to make sure, I only use one of those magnets and one magnet from my ATG, or can I use both magnets that the fan came with? If so, which color goes up or down?

Thanks,

Jay
