Well on Tuesday Sept 11th I had the opportunity of a lifetime and received a high performance ride in an F-15D. It was a totally amazing time and there's nothing like "cloud chasing", especially when I was the one who was actually flying! I honestly flew about 80% of the time. We did several maneuvers and we pulled 8.6Gs (which equals out to about 8 times my body weight) I started to pass out (tunnel vision) but was able to hang in there and recovered quick. On the way home we decided to do a "touch-n-go" at the Myrtle Beach airport, it was pretty wild seeing the civilian airliners holding short of the runway so we could fly by and do a full afterburner takeoff right in front of them (what a treat for those passengers too!) My Chief asked me what I had for lunch and I told him a nice "nacho cheese hotdog", he told me to let him know what it tastes like when it comes out my nose... :-) Well luckily I didn't get sick and had a blast!

My favorite part was definitely the max climb...100 to 16,000 feet in I can't imagine how much time. I definitely didn't feel like we were that high until the roll out.

Although this was my second flight, I enjoyed this one 10 times better because I knew what was going on.

sorry for the pic qualities... they were actually like 3.5Mbs each, but had to shrink them down to 800x600

Cool beans. Cool also that you held down your lunch.

Save the chunk bag as a souvenir?

if anyone is interested, I would like to send the full size pic of the aircraft going down the runway during take off and have you touch it up so I can get a nice large size photo out of it. You'll have rights to the photo for your use also. (limited amount of request though)

Nice
That sounds really cool.
How is it that other pilots don't pass out? Is it practice or do you kinda have to be born with a high tolerance when it comes to pulling big G's??

It is definitely practice and getting used to it. It's crazy to feel the g-suit squeezing the crap out of my lower body just to keep my blood to my head. They basically tell you to tighten up your body, almost like taking a dump(without pushing though) as you enter the maneuver which really helps.

I have decided to upload some pics to "my gallery" because I want to share the quality of these pics. There's only like 3-4, but they are my favs. I already paid my Chief a 4-pak of Redbull for the pictures so I know he won't mind.

If you do touch them up, PM me and I'll shoot my email addy to you.

Very cool! I've never seen an F-15 with that paint scheme (not that I've seen a lot) cool to see.

What's an "Incentive" ride? Is that what they give you to help you decide to reenlist? They used to have programs similar to that in the Canadian Forces. You could put a request in to go for a ride in a CF-18. It was pretty competetive and I don't know of anyone that ever did get a ride.

Definitely a thrill of a lifetime!

Must be nice...I was a dedicated crewchief on F-15s for 8 years, including a D model for 2 of em....

I never got a ride. I almost did once, while on deployment for OSW in Prince Sultan AB back in late '98...but that got nixed when we went combat ops for Op Desert Fox.

Fact is, most of the crew chiefs on fighters never get a ride. While I was a DCC on a D model (2-seater version), I launched out many incentive rides for admin folks from the personnel office.

I hope you didn't make a mess of that crew dawg's jet
