Carb bore is different the 643 is the bigger one.
And fuel consumtion is different, the 167 is the one which uses less gas..... BUT! The 643 has a better reputation in being much more easy to tune and leave the needles alone..

the 167a was used on the 23 and the 643 on the 231/260. the 167a will work and and will have snappy response but will not make the power on the top end.the bore and venturi are smaller if you are'nt worried about max power it would be fine.

Strange?
What happened with your 643?
I would look into that because in the end you'll have to "tune" the 167 much more often.
And that's the big advantage with the 643 carb, you'll set the needles right once, to never look at the needles again.
Oh yeah, and more power too, and a prime bulb...

i really don't know what happened to the 643 carb. it got to the point where the idle would not come down. first i thought of an air leak, but could not find one so i put the 167 on and it flies great. the other day the air temp was in the 80's and today in the low 70's i didn't touch the carb and checked the plug, and its right on the money. after taking the 643 apart i found the fuel jet under the primer bulb was not working somehow the arm got bent and the fuel jet was not being lifted and i guess causing the it to run lean.

toxic al, you really nailed the 167A carb. you are 100% correct. the helicopter is very lively up until top end, you do loose some of the top end performance, but for 3D the 167A really makes the heli have an extra punch.

primer bulb

erichevy: the 167 carb has primer bulb as well as the 643 carb.

Of course you derated your engine. Fuel consumption is based on Horsepower. Why would you put a 167 on a heli? If you have trouble tuning a 643 you will have trouble tuning a 167.

Something else to consider is the "flapper":

ace bird,

the reason i put the 167a on is that my 643 carb isn't working. all of the sudden the carb would not let the engine come back to a idle. thought i had a air leak. i went through everything. could not find it. then i put all new diaphrams in it. now when you prime the bulb the gas won't even make it to the primer bulb. several of the guys at the field can't find the problem. i took it to the local small engine/lawn mower shop, they dont' know whats wrong. so i put the 167 on to see if it was the carb or another problem. the heli is running great with the 167 carb. just today at the field one of the guys took the carb home to see if he can find the problem.

The ole 167

I got a pair of the lil old buggers, I pretty much have never touched them except a slot adjustment when it got 95 and about 70% humidity.

Have no idea of the suck factor on a 643 I never have seen one.

Ridiculously long tank time " 15 min's" and then after I've had enough, seem's theirs always about a 1/2" of ozark in the bottom on the Dubro.

Top end punch ?? Wholley cow !!! I have never even thought of experimenting with that !! I'm hovering at 3/4 on both stick and butterfly, and when in FFF, all I can think about is backing out pitch and power and slowing the beast down. Seem's like it's doing around 50 0r 60 and still accelerating.

I'm Still a brown stripe circuit flyer

On a side note : Super thanx to Paul and Dave and the rest of you guy's for helping me with my last odessey on the part number's.
What a rare breed we are indeed
