Hello

Does anyone know any good measures to reduce intake noise on a Spectra-G? I am currently using the stock Zenoah air filter, but I find the intake noise annoying.

Thanks!

Tried planks, but after all, wood is best on the bonfire.

R u serious?

Sure its the intake noise? How can you tell? I doubt you can hear that over everything else, especially with the closed box stock air filter.

I am - very

You see, I have now ditched the Hattori, and also the B.H. Hanson tuned pipe and replaced it with a Zimmerman muffler. The chopper is now extremely quiet, to such an extent that I clearly can pick out the gear-train noise, and the intake noise.

You see the heli is much more quiet when I hover with the exhaust side of the Spectra towards me, than it is when I hover with the "intake-side" towards me. So it is evident that the stock air-cleaner is making quite a bit of noise as the air is rushing thru it.

So, back to my original question - does anyone have any inputs on this matter, or have anyone tried different filters that had positive effects on the intake noise?

Thanx

I have a Zimmermann pipe on my Cuatro gasser too and it sure is quiet. You can somewhat hear the intake noise when hovering at low rpm, but to be honest it really doesn't bug me.

I would be more interested to know which Zimmermann is the most quiet one. If i remember right the muffler was measured 82db.

Cheers

yeah i have also noticed the same thing, and i also use a zimmermann muffler. I have tried 3 different filters (stock, hanson and k&n)
and i think the k&n (vario) filter is the best. But the heli is still louder when hovering with the "intake-side" towards me.

Try flying with a velocity stack - that really is noisy

I also find the intake side to be the loudest (and so did the sound meter). K&N filter was the quietest for me...
