Whoa, I just got around to watching the vid...frickin nasty...

I have been known to eat a burger now and then, but that vid definitely makes me think a little different about supporting the beef industry at all, especially knowing how much lobby power they have in D.C.

They have been able to virtually stop all testing (90% cutback) for mad cow disease despite the fact that the number of diseased cows has gone up in the last years...

Trust your govt people! LOL

To each their own but not eating meat has its consequences. First you develop small vagina sores all over your skin. Next you eventually turn into one giant pu$$^....end of story.

Ive gradually lost my like for red meat aside from burger. I favor pork now.

Well, I guess that's irrefutable proof that this never happens in the U.S.A.

As I said, I worked on farms where slaughtering took place, and I saw lots of things that people could never imagine.

What you saw there was standard operating procedure for slaughtering pigs and hogs where I worked...

except they didn't always wait for the thing to stop thrashing around before cutting it open and letting its guts sprawl out all over the floor, or cutting its legs off. They would just hold it down and start chopping away...while the lungs were still working and the heart was on the floor beating...

After a while the ranch hands got bored of killing the same old way so they got "creative." Which means, they would think of more sadistic ways to kill them and then laugh. When they got bored of that they'd walk over to the chicken pens and take one or two out and wring their necks, throw them in the air, and have contests to see which one would dance around the longest.

One of the guys there actually used to brag that he was having sex with the chickens. These were chickens that were laying eggs that were sold to the market...

Omelettes anyone?

oddly enough, one of the case studies in one of my business courses involves PETA and cruelty towards animals... although I don't agree with what goes on in many/most of those slaughterhouses, I don't feel that PETA is helping the situation... if anything, they make things worse and give people a reason to push back and resist what they're trying to achieve. They need to take a step back, talk things through step by step, and give these places a long-term timetable for reform. Let's face it folks, if that's how slaughtering's been done for generations, it's going to take more than one PETA movement to change the ways of everyone out there... They want change to happen overnight, and we all know that it's just not going to happen that way.

Maybe the solution for all is to slaughter them humanely like they do in abortion clinics?

Comedy aside, to each his own.

We all have metabolisms as different as our hair color. For some, a limited diet is harmful and for others it works well. I have an old friend in his late 50's who hasn't consumed anything that had roots in 35 years -- meat only, literally, and he's as healthy as I am. I happen to like monster salads as much as a good steak, so my particular brand of 'balanced diet' is working quite well.

With a vegetarian (or strictly vegan) diet though, one must be very careful to consume enough protein to avoid anemia & other deficiency-type conditions.

Depending on what group you fit into and how strict you are, they live 5-8 years longer than meat eaters
Thats exactly what I'm trying to prevent.... (seriously....thats pretty much how I feel about the last 10 years of ones life...Its gonna suck...)

That said...I must be a heartless bastage, I worked my way through college working for my fathers refridgeration co...we serviced a few cattle slaughter houses, a chicken slaughter house and a pig/sheep house...it never bothered me...

to this day....I can eat anything...(and it doesnt even have to be cooked...or it can be spoiled, no difference to my intestinal tract)

In my younger days I won quite a few bets on what I could or couldnt keep down...and still occasionally gross the wifie out...

Ask your Doctor if getting off your ass is right for you.

Gimbal Fan,

Yes, balance is the key. One of my uncles got it in his head that the best diet was one of all steak, all the time. He ate beef for every meal. Within a year he was diagnosed with cancer, it was so aggressive that it claimed his life within 6 months. His last couple weeks on earth were horrific. The tumor had grown so large that it was pressing against his spine. He was wracked with excruciating pain 24 hrs a day for the last 12-13 days of his life.

Is there a link? Can't say for sure. But I think so...

His point is that the "liberals" always seem to be complaining how a cow gets killed, but do not seem to mind if a fetus is literally vacuumed out of a womb.

a) what makes you assume that I'm 100% liberal?
b) what makes you assume that I approve of abortion
c) if you want to bring other lame political topics into this, then what about the death sentence?
