Let's here some views on cryonics. Anybody here planning on it? I read a lot about it the other day, would like to read a discussion on it from this active group who always has something interesting to say Anybody think they'll be able to revive someone when future medicine permits after being frozen or vitrified for years? Anybody strongly against it? Thought this might make for an interesting discussion.

I didn't think we'd perfected the technique yet for freezing people without massive cellular damage, so at the moment the gamble is that eventually we will also learn enough to be able to repair the damage that current freezing techniques do. As some of that damage will be to the brain, I dont believe that the person who might eventually be revived will be the same person as was frozen.

So with our current freezing technology I dont plan to try it.

If freezing technology improves, then I would love to see what technology we have developed in 500 or even 1000 years time. If I could afford it, (and I'm sure it wont be cheap!) I'd do it in an instant.

They claim to use vitrification, freezing without ice forming, cellular damage is extremely reduced due to the fact ice crystals don't form in the cell, I don't think they have the means to do the whole body that way yet, just the brain. cryonics.com takes you to the alcor institute which has a great deal of info explaining the procedure. It's defintely an interesting concept.

I think think you pressed one shell to rinse, the 2nd to dry and the 3rd to squirt perfume.

I dunno if cryonics will work. I'd say cloning your DNA is more viable but there is the problem of storing your memories!

lol, this thread has turned into the cryo-buttwipe discussion... maybe it shoots liquid nitrogen on the residual fecal matter, and it all just falls neatly into the toilet..... ????

Best try caloric restriction for the meanwhile. Perhaps if you can live to 150, they'll have sorted it out by then.

The basic idea is to eat 1/2 the amount; live twice as long. Either you can eat 1/2 the amount each day, or only eat every other day.

I saw on TV the other day you can get a freeze kit for warts
at the drug store now! But for the topic Cryonics isn't quite
ready for prime time, Their going to go crap 200 years from now
when they realize if only they added a drop of X they wouldn't
have to throw all these popcicles away

Cheapest I've found for killing warts is freezing spray for electronics. Sometimes intermittent faults are due to components overheating, and you can buy a spray to test these (if you spray it on a component and it starts working again, then you've found the dud component).

Works great. Be careful not to spray it on skin that is too thin (e.g. the back of your hand) as you can cause tendon/nerve damage. Use vaseline round the border of the wart.
