I finally got my 91 tooth main gear for my Raptor 90SE and while I was installing it I removed the one way clutch R.F. ring from the main gear subassembly. What does the R.F. stand for?

Raptor 90SE manual
page 20
section 1-6-3
Main Gear Subassembly

Here it shows the ring and a short blurb describes how this ring prevents the aluminum house from expanding (too much?). I really never saw any practical function with this piece which btw weighs in @ 31.60 grams or 1.11 ounces not much but to me it is dead weight.

The reason I'm taking it off of my R90 is because a flying buddy of mine told me that the TT team pilots fly without this on, I don't know what there reason is for this but they don't have it on as well as the 'Ninja Stars' and baseplate.

Anyways I can't think of what problem(s) can occur if this is taken off or is there?

Having my heli: Cool, Having a working heli: Awesome, Having a day to fly: PRICELESS!

Initially the ring was designed to stop the alloy housing from distorting and causing the one-way to lockup. In practice though, this problem does not seem to be an issue..

On the new Raptor 903D - the ring is not even specified in the kit so I'd safely say that you can run without the ring with no problem.

It is quite heavy for a small item so there is good reason to keep it off.

Those frame stiffeners sure a lot of dead weight. I wonder why TT decided to make them in the first place.

I think that in a really bad crash they may prevent the carbon frames from breaking. I never tested that theory though. They're definetely not needed as long as you are using the TT carbon. it's thicker than some of the aftermarket stuff.
