Whenever I turn on 'throttle hold', aside from killing the throttle, the 6EX switches from 'idle-up' mode to 'normal'.

Is this 'correct'? It seems to me that to practice autos, you'd want the full range of collective pitch movement available. I know you only want a small amount of negative pitch to autorotate, but eventually when one gets to inverted autos etc. etc... that full range might be useful.

I suppose I'm disconcerted in that this 'feature' seems to be undocumented. I guess I could always solve it by swapping round my idle-up and normal mode settings, and calling 'idle-up' 'normal mode' etc. etc...

Do you have a setup for the throttle and pitch settings for hold?

There is a setup for the 'hold' throttle setting. e.g. throttle at 0% (My T-rex is electric).

There's no separate pitch curve for the throttle-hold mode.

It defaults to normal mode, which I have at about -3 degrees to +10.

Even if nobody can solve this problem for me... Can anyone confirm whether or not this is abnormal?

Mine is exactly the same and I am also sruggling to do auto's when switching to throttle hold.

What I have tried is swapping my pitch and throttle curves over, put all your normal settings in idle up and your idle up settings into normal (hover) mode. This means that you hover etc in idle up mode and fast flight (with more neg pitch) is in normal mode.
This way when you switch throttle hold on it uses your fast flight curves.

It works but you have to be careful, slightly confusing at first!

In the end, I've decided to effectively do without 'normal mode' and I've mirrored the pitch settings in 'idle-up' in 'normal mode'.

I use a 0-60-30-20-10 throttle curve now in 'normal mode' - OK for spooling up and checking tracking.

I have come across this problem too and I am of the opinion that Futaba had made a big mistake! I have spoken at length to Rimax in the Uk and Futaba US and neither can explain it other than to rather absurdly say you have bought a cheap radio. Im told that all Futaba radios work this way but cannot find the reason why. The effect is to destroy the versatility of this otherwise brilliant radio by forcing you (as you have found out) to set exactly the same throttle and pitch curves in both normal and idle up mode. Theres not much point in allowing you to set them differently if the net effect is a significant jump in pitch when you engage Throttle hold.

I would appreciate it if there is someone out there who can explain this apparently crazy performance.

The excuse that is a cheap radio is silly because it would be easier not to have this feature...Futaba have deliberately programmed this in.

I hold to the 'mistake' theory too.

It's a shame because otherwise it's a great radio.

On the other hand, I reckon idle-up/normal mode is just a nitro anachronism (electrics have slow-start, and I fly in just one mode, quite happily). If you fly nitro, I'd have thought you'd be more likely to want a 7ch.
