i have a raptor 30 and have almost finished my fuz, euceuril. what speed can i reduce the blades to, without it falling out of the sky?
and if i slow the blades i will still need enough power from the engine for climb outs etc, without stalling.
i wasnt going to change any gearing, am just curious at how slow i can have the head speed with everything standard?

Much below 15 to 1600 and you will get the wobbles.

I wouldn't go any lower then that myself. If you need the visual affect of a slower rotating head paint the blades....one black and the other white. Gives a good illusion.

Don't forget your tail rotor as well... too low and you lost the tail authority also.

The head damping and configuration has a lot to do with it. As BeracudaHockey said, due to the damping etc. on your Rappy 30, you may get nodding below 1600.

My Century Long Ranger with an OS32 and the soft damping on the Hawk scale mechanics make it very happy to purr along at 1350.

I have flown it at lower head speeds (1100) but with the 9.76 gear ratio I found the carb settings irratic from hover to full open.

but wont painting the blades set up an imbalance? Somebody once cautioned me against painting the blade tips on my tail rotor on a bolkow for this reason although I did think it was a little over the top in that it could'nt set up vibes the way he thought it might.

You can re-balance the blades after/during painting, using paint

Painting blades

bolkow Painting will put your blades out of balance, but like Coolrunnin said you can re-balance them, the photo is of my painted blades if you look closely you can see black tape on the yellow tips, this is for balanceing
