I know there is a blade tie-down available from Vario but are there any others out there or has anyone made them, if so how?

havnt made them myself but if you go to a local fabric supplier you can get hold of the fabric and get the other half to sew them for you (unless you can sew your self)
then have vinyl stencils made to the "remove before flight" sign and print onto your fabric

Darren, if you would explain a little more on how to do the vinyl stencils for the remove before flight. Thanks

sorry my mistake you make them out of plastic card .
basicly you get the letter stencils from a stationary shop (the clear plastic one with the whole alphabet on) use ing this and a pencil you spell out remove before flight , then useing a craft knife or even better a hot blade, you carefully cut the wording out
this leaves a template in the card that you place over the material
the either use a white spray can or a brush to paint over it, lift the template up and hey presto your own tie down, you can then use your template over and over again.

vinyl stencils

autorotater,Pay a visit to your local vinyl sign maker, and ask them to make a vinyl mask of what you want, it is adhesive, but can be removed from material easily after spraying, alternativly use vinyl lettering, heat with a hot air gun and the vinyl will stay put

I like the idea of making a tie-down as the Vario item seems a bit big and bulky to me, I think plasticard rather than fabric would be more realistic that way it could be painted the appropriate colours and cord from a venetian blind maker could be used for the ties.
Adhesive vinyl lettering can be used for 'Remove Before Flight' warning.

use knicker elastic as tie downs its streches nicely and if you do accidentl catch it it will strech rather than do damage to model and blades

If you are after the 'Remove before Flight' pennants to attach to your tie-down, there are quite a few pilot supplies stores which sell miniature ones as keyrings and just about anything else you can think of which you can attach a pennant to

Might be a durable alternative?

I know some full-size helis actually have the tie-down loops built into the blades themselves e.g. the Huey.
