I agree with everything that Streetwize has posted. I just recently painted a few canopies for some friends and it is very time consuming. The prep work and masking takes up the majority of the time. Spraying the actual colors doesn't take much time at all. Try duplicating one of the nicer paint jobs that you see and you will quickly realize how much time is actually involved.

I am glad you guys are explaining the things that are involved in painting these things. Again I hope I didn't offend anyone, just wanted to know why and now I know.

Guess I should either try and learn or just try to find someone else to paint them for me.

Unless you already have the right equipment (air compressor, a quality airbrush such as an Iwata - about $115 or more new, and a good detail gun), I would just look for someone else to paint your canopy. As mentioned, there are sveral choices out there. I have seen a DYD canopy up close and it was one of the best I have ever seen. I have also seen several Arizon Heli canopies and they are well done too. I have had a Canopy fx canopy on my old Tempest and it too was very well done. I now paint my own because I like the challenge and the satisfaction when the canopy comes out good.

Airdodger, I found a few major mistakes in canopy fx tips.

Quote
"# Mix and shoot the base color (House of Color BC-26) # Repeat until canopy is uniform in color (Let dry over night)"
House of Kolor paint only has a 1 hour window, it absolutely must be cleared within one hour or adhesion of all other top coats could fail. If it is a metalic color wetsanding without clear is not optional. Start over...
Thats odd, per HOK
9. DRY TIME
Allow dry time before Kandy or clear is applied (usually about 15 to 60
minutes and not longer than 12 hours). Topcoat within 12 hours or apply
SG100 Intercoat Clear
(see step 10).
SHIMRIN® FLASH TEST - ALL SHIMRIN® BASES WILL DRY DULL AND
SHOULD FEEL DRY TO THE TOUCH BEFORE THE NEXT COAT IS APPLIED.
Monitor closely for maximum merging of coats.

Proxyman01. You beat me to it. That is the same thing my HOK tech manuals say. Come to think of it, it is the same thing the founder of the company says in his seminars.

I love the smell of nitro in the morning..

What is the going rate for something nice on either a 600N or 450 canopy? Trying to get some feelers on price ranges I should be looking at.

600n... 75-250 for paint alone... 40 for blank canopy.
