Hello all,
I am currently in the process of setting up a Millenium 2 90.
I'd like to set it up for standard flying (no 3D).
Which gyro/servo will best fit it?

I was thinking of the GY611/9256 or Logictech LTG-6100T Gyro/ LTG-6100G Servo.
I am searching a reliable setup where the servo will not get crazy after 40 flights (that's why I did not trhink about GY401).

Kind REgards
Antoine

For standard flying, a GY401 with 9254 will do you fine. Why do you think otherwise? Even for 3D, a 401 will give good performance if setup well.

Hi Antoine,

Everyone has there own opinion and here's mine. I've used the JR 770 and the Futaba 401 and 611. The 611 is much better than either the 401 or the 770.

The big difference in the 401 versus the 611 is the slow pirouette rate. The 401 is very irregular while the 611 is silky smooth. Also, the precision of the 401 is not comparable to the 611. Try exiting 540 stall turns accurately with the 401. It's very imprecise. The 611 is spot on. And in fast backward flight, the 401 is marginal whereas the 611 is rock solid.

The 611 is also better than the JR770 in that you can control the stop rates. The stop rates on the 770 are brutal. JR recommend reducing gain or adding more expo to soften the stops. On the 611 you simply adjust the stop rate. Also, with the 770, you need to use trim to get it set up properly. The 611 never requires trim.

I haven't tried the Logitech, but I have a friend that says its as good as the 611. The nice thing about the Logitech is that there is no separate amp that can get damaged in a crash. It also weighs less.

Since you asked, I'd go with the 611. I've got it in my TRex 600N and it is everything I could ask for.

Good luck with your new heli. Keep 'em flying.

Don't disagree with what you said, however for "standard flying" I view the 611 as overkill and money that could be better spent eg on fuel.

Yeah, DrLodge, you may be right. I didn't catch that he was setting it up for "no 3D." But even for standard flight, I think I would be frustrated with the irregular pirouette rate of the 401. I was quite happy when my 401 locked up on me so that I could upgrade. For $50 more, the JR770 is a much smoother and more precise gyro.

BTW, my 401 lasted about 300 flights, so I don't think durability is an issue. I haven't gotten it back yet, so I don't know what was wrong with it, but any piece of electronic equipment can fail. I think the 401 is as durable as any of them.

Good luck, Antoine, with your new 90 machine.

Thanks all,
Wehn I am talking about reliability, I am more concerned about the 9254.
