What should the needle settings be when starting for the first time. The engine manual says during breakin 1 and half turns from normal setting but it doesn't tell you what the normal setting is. Under starting, it says to start with 1 and half turns out so does this mean I should be at 3 turns out when starting for the first time? This seems way too rich for hyper with this pipe. Thanks for the help.

The manual gives initial needle settings, last time I checked.

Page 18 of the Hyper manual clearly states that you close the main needle, then open it 1.5 turns. That's the "normal" setting. And the break-in stuff says another 1.5 turns from that, so you could start out with three turns, but realize once you get it started, you'll end up adjusting the needle somewhat leaner than that initial setting just to keep the motor running when you pull the igniter battery off.

The main concern is that you are rich when you start it that first time, not lean.

Low speed needle the slot in the cam is centered and parallel to a line running down the centerline of the venturi.

That is the point rich initial start, because the ring is not sealing well and the fuel draw is weak until the ring starts to seat. Opening the needle reduces the restriction in the system, and makes it easier to get fuel. Then set the needle so it runs correct and a little rich.

My experience with the Hyper and the MP5 is that normal needle setting on this combo leads to raw fuel pouring out of the pipe and choking on spool up. I am at 1 turn out on the main needle now and the temp is good but still acts a bit rich @ 2050HS. I am leaving it for now until the motor is completely broke in. It has 20 flight on it currently and making alot of power.

Start at 1.5 turns out and run through the first tank. After that you will need to lean it due to the amount of fuel it will be spitting out. I started mine out at 1 3/4 and quickly leaned it to 1.5 just to get it to spin up.

FYI, don't crash this combo because I just broke my engine block last weekend.

Everything I've heard about the Hyper50/MP5 combo is that a given needle setting will be much richer than with the standard mufflers, because the MP5 provides higher fuel pressure in a muffler-pressurized setup. This means you'll be leaning it in response, so as DWS6 says you may find it's spitting out raw fuel at the "book" settings.
