Hi, I have just put a new piston ring in my OS50 Hyper. And i am wondering if it should have same breakin as a new engine.
I usually have the main-needle 1 turn out. For the breakin with the new piston ring, I turned it half a turn out from there. The engine was running nice a smoot, with lots of smoke. I could hold my finger on the backplate forever! (though not while flying:-) ) After the first tank i leaned it once click in for the next 4 tanks. Mild flying, no aerobatics. On the 6'th tank i started some mild aerobatics, a couple of flips, and so on. The engine was still rich, and the backplate not too hot. The engine bogged down a little while doing the flips, but on the other hand, it was pretty rich.
Does this sound fine? Or should the breakin be done like it was a new engine?
(Sorry for my bad english, but i guess you will understand the topic :-) )

Back off the main needle to about 2 turns and run it in for a gallon like it was a new engine. On a new engine, the only thing that really gets run in is the piston and sleeve.
