lol, here comes an argument......... I run GV1's in everything. Some people say they are old and outdated, But no matter what people say, if setup properly no other governor I have seen is nearly as reliable or accurate. Futaba also has the provisions for running a mixture servo to adjust mixture in flight as needed. Problems with the GV1 are always with the user, never the unit. Lots of guys argue also that the LCD screen is not needed, but it is a voltmeter for your servo voltage (no load for setting voltage regulators etc.), and will tell you your maximum headspeed after a flight along with lots more info and uses if you are serious about tuning your heli.

Flame on.

here's your flame

The servo response is slower with the gv1. when I used one, I observed a noticeable overspeed. The response is slower, and isn't really debateable.
I personally use revmax's now on my helis. Set up is easy, and the only downside is that you need a tach.

plus...what kind of techno nerd runs a mixture servo

overspeed is because of the slow servo. Jeez, dont start with the ATG.

you are correct.

Both are good products. Danny likes Futaba, and I like the revmax. Either will suit you fine.

i have run most of them.

doc, im sorry the GV1 IS old hat. its sensores are unreliable and expensive. the amp is a heavy lump with a lot of useless gumpf on it. Its a pure governor with no "forward looking"

i could not believe the difference in the tail holding power through those aggressive direction changes when going backwards when i switched to the rev lock

watch a GV1 through an MA sky tach then watch a CSM rev lock or a curtis ATG

I personally dont like the rev-max the phylosophy is flawed for 3d. whilst it does seem to work pretty well when used with a fast digital tail servo its a pretty expensive combo when compared to the rev lock or ATG combined with a futaba 3152 which IME controls more accurately than the TJpro or rev max.

add another vote for the gv-1.

so easy to set up and you can usually pick one up on rr dirt cheap, plus I use mine to keep an eye on my battery voltage.

I have one on my evo 90 and now just put one on my knight 50 sport.

as i said the GV1 is a pure governor. it it takes the times between each time it sees the magnet takes a rolling average over 10 revs of the engine. this means not only does the rpm have to drop before the gv1 will open the throttle and takes it time over it over the 10 revs of the engine. finally it doesnt support digital servos so the servo position only gets updated at 70hz. it all builds up and means you xan end up with a lot less headspeed during fast collective and cyclic inputs as it just cant keep up.

the rev max is a limiter. the way your supposed to set it up is to setup normal curves and mixes. then when you offload it the limiter cuts in and stops it overspeeding. However there are lots of times when curves and mixes dont give enough throttle to keep the headspeed up. eg when you bog it, you back off the pitch and cyclic so now the throttle is less than 100% but headspeed is still down. So what you end up doing is cranking up the throttle curves sometimes as far as 100% flat line so then it is just forced to run like a governor. It does perform better than the GV1 but you loose all the forward looking. I think the way it gets round it to some extent is due to it supporting digital servos

the rev lock and ATG are very similar. they are both forward looking governors. on the rev lock the sensor is orentated differently meaning the signal a saw tooth rather than a sine wave meaning the sensing is more accurate so it sees the rpm drop much sooner. however the big difference is that it passes the throttle straight through and then governs after. so big changes in throttle go straight to the servo then the governor looks at the speed and decides what to do with it.

on the gv1 doing gentle forward flips you can easily see 50-100rpm change in headspeed as you on/off load it.

on the rev lock and ATG its as low as 10rpm this gives a much more consistent feel to the collective and cyclics.
