I stopped by the oakley's store today and narrowed down my choice to either the half jacket or the flak jacket sunglasses.

I wanna know what's the best lense color for heli use. Gold Iridium, Black Iridium, Bronze Iridium, or something else?

Thanks,
Awais

I have had many of the Oakley lenses and my advice is for sunny conditions, go with the gold iridium. I had black iridium and silhouettes came too easy. For really overcast days I bought the golf tint (G30) lens that is supposed to be high contrast, but I find that it doesn't work as good for flying as it does for golfing. I am going with the persimmon (high intensity yellow) lens for those days.

Hope that helps,

I'm leaning towards polarized gold iridium for sunny days. Any recommendations for cloudy conditions.

Thanks,

Lost in my own world here,,,

I swear by Polariod lenses to eliminate glare and enhance contrast.
I am ignorant to the other stuff out here and am sure there probably is better.

The VR28 Black Iridium that I had made everything in the sky the same shade. Because of this, the color of the helicopter was always very dark and you couldn't see it very well. If it was a little cloudy, it just became black and that doesn't help for orientation. The Gold Iridium still blocks sun on the brightest of days, but doesn't loose the contrast like the Black does. I should note that the VR28 Black Iridium isn't the same as Black Iridium. The VR28 looks like it adds some color that may be causing the silhouettes.

For cloudy days, I either wear my normal clear prescription glasses or the G30 lenses. I am going to get a pair of the Persimmon for those days, as the G30 doesn't do as well as expected.

I wear the blue oakley lenses. Polarized. I am able to go from clear to mostly cloudy days. On days that are completely overcast I either stick with the same glasses or none at all.
