Hi all. I can't seem to get ride of this tail wag. I believe i have the gyro set correctly(futaba 401) but still shakes. I also have a prblem with it wandering almost if the heading hold isn't holding enough. Any help would be great. Thanks

(electronic gain)
What Radio and what setting is your gyro gain set at? (servo 9254...yes?)
(mechanical gain)
What length is your ball-link from center on the t/r servo?

(energy input to the system/more mechanical gain)
Finally, what Head Speed RPM and what tail blades are you running?

lotta ins, lotta outs

ALot of people get confused, heading hold the tail blades will NOT center. rate mode the tail blades WILL center after every input. make sure your not getting them mixed up..

Things to look for and eliminate:

- Slop in your linkages, including loose ball links and loose (or stripped) servo gears

- Binding in your linkages (the opposite problem). Ball links that are overly tight, dirt or burrs on your tail connecting rod or tail slider sleeve & shaft

- Vibration - a bent main shaft, spindle shaft, or tail shaft, even if nearly imperceptable, can affect the gyro hold. Ditto for unbalanced or out-of-track main or tail blades, or running your engine too rich

- Head speed - Too low can introduce vibration, too high isn't generally a problem if you have no sources of vibration

- Tail blades / grips on the right way - Make sure your tail blades come up on the front of the heli (through the downwash of the main blades) and back down at the rear of the heli. Going the other way will reduce your tail hold.

- Busted stuff - Find a friend with a 401 & 9254 to lend you for an hour. Replace each part individually and test it without changing anything else. Fuel in a tail servo or gyro can cause problems electronically (or mechanically in the servo). Make sure it's not just a faulty component.

I'm sure others will have more suggestions, but this should cover most of the basics.

It's too early in the morning to really get my brain going. I just stopped in before jumping into the shower, so I'll give it a shot, but where's my coffee? Yawn!

Futaba GY401:

1. Reduce gain until the wagging is gone. If the percentage is too low for your tastes, reduce the length of the servo arm. These two are related, the longer the arm, the lower the percentage number to reduce the wag.

2. If the model is drifting, ensure substrim is at 0, adjust with the linkage length of the tail rotor pushrod.

Finally, there's nothing that says a Futaba gyro will be perfect or failure free, but that said, while it's unlikely it's defeective it could happen - but my bet is the 2 setps above will get you going.

Is it a slow oscillation or a fast wag?

Also check your sticky tape, make sure it is still snug.

must have been a downdraft

Everyone seems to have covered most problems. Not sure about your Super 6 Tx, but for drift you can try making sure that the revolution mixing is inhibited.
