Get the modified engine... post April 06 I believe, and you will be good to go! I have the 260 in mine and I beat the crap out of it in the air and she pulls like a trucker... just awesome!

My two cents.

It's not just good... it's good enough

The modified motors are way smoother than stock.
This is the main reason people get the modded motors, the extra power is a nice bonus.

Thats sort of the point behind getting the engine balanced... it takes someofthe vibrations out of it...

I have found that it makes it easier to get into tuning... My g21 on my1005 shakes like a bandit, but the 26 is super smooth

It's not just good... it's good enough

Yes
The cheaper pipe I think is the Century one, but the $235 one is a tuned pipe, which also will give the most power, but be a bit more fiddly to tune.
There are quite a few guys running Hanson 26's in their Spectra G's without issue.

I run the pro modified with the century v3 pipe. I have had the hatori pipe and the century is just as good. My heli is 21 lbs all up without issue. The results speak for themselves.

The power difference is not the issue, the 231 and 260 have very close
power output but the torque on the 260 is higher. the spectra is geared higher then most other gassers so the motor needs to rev to get your head speed up.No one has ever complained to me that the mod 231 I produce is lacking power,in fact I have been told on many times how the 231 rips. Everyone is under the impression that bigger is better and while it does have some atvantages, it is not always better for the application. I am producing a 260 which is coming out soon but the lower geared birds will notice the biggest gains. My 231 is now $400 and the 260 will be aprox $425 now that i have control of the pricing. If you have any ? don't hesitate to ask. Peace, Toxic Al

The last time I checked the G ratio was 7.15. The engine speed with 1750 head speed will put my 260 engine at 12,500 and it runs strong, smooth and sweet there! To all using the latest B.H.Hanson engines, thanks for the positive words and great reports!

The gear ratio is 7.15 to 1. the 231 was tested and set to run to 13,250 max which will put it in the 1850 range but is happy at lower rpm's as well. Peace, Toxic Al(TRM)

The Spectra G 3D deserves to run a 1850 headspeed,
that`s what it`s made for, and TRM,
that` exactly what it takes, to get a wild bird.
Thanks` to Toxic Al for a great engien

So if I put the Hanson mod 260 engine on.....should I be changing any gears to make the flight better? or are the stock gears ok? this is getting confusing...I think I am just going to stick with the stock 231.

Gear ratio

Isn't the gear ratio calculated by taking the main gear teeth divided by the pinion teeth? (90/13= 6.92)

Thanks for the kind words Bo, the spectra has a fixed gear ratio at 7.15 John and I had Tim make a new clutch pinion set up to change the ratio when testing the 260 but that was testing only. Yes that is how you determine gear ratio. Peace, Toxic Al

So.....

So basically what you are saying is that the stock setup on the spectra G is not right for the Hanson 260 engine? Right?

Hi WHITEHOUSE HELI

If you want to run a 1850 headspeed on your Spectra G,
with the 7.15 gearing that comes with your heli,
go with the TRM 231puh
it has got all the torque you need, absolutely

I run mine in, normal 1650 idl1 1750 idl2 1850

Hi,

That's the point, spectra has a 90 teeth main gear and a 13 teeth pinion. If you divide the main gear with the pinion the gear ratio is
6.92 and not 7.15.

Please let me know what you think
