Last night I was watching the Alan Szabo heli DVD and noticed that behind him (the 6 Raptors) there were green paddles on his Raptor 90. Also the dvd shows him flying a R90 with the greenies on them.

I took some measurements:

Raptor 50 flybar: 2.98mm diameter
Raptor 90 flybar: 3.98mm diameter

I tried to put the green paddles on my 90 and they aren't a ready fit. To put the greenies on you'ld have to shove them in or ream the hole out, but then I don't know if they'll thread in correctly.

The weight of paddles:

greenies: 20.63 grams
some 90 paddles I have
K&S: 20.96 grams
V-paddles: 22.77 grams

So the greenies are just 0.33 grams lighter than my lightest paddles. I looked up the Curtis Youngblood Stubz paddle weights and they are listed at 12 grams, but at $45. At about $10 for the greenies I think they'd be a good alternative, they are light and very visible-if you can get them to fit the flybar though.

Has anyone noticed this on the DVD and tried the greenies on there Raptor 90?

I hate to let you know that the helicopter with the green paddels was my raptor 30. Never had anything but V-Paddles on my 90s.

Paddle effectiveness is a combination of weight and aerodynamic lift. The small green paddles are smaller than the 90 red paddles and would probably not generate enough lift to make for a fast cyclic response. It would be an interesting project to try them out – a longer flybar with green paddles might work.

I knew those green paddles were too small for the 90.

PS Hope to see a lot of you RR members there.
