Thanks for all the sympathetic comments. I'm starting to believe we have all made a boo-boo or two. So I go out to fly this morning and get a classic tail "no hold", spins silly to the right no matter how much rudder I give it. I check the belt, it's OK. So I hold the tail blades and turn the rotor head. What I see is the top of the tail drive gear spinning with the shaft, but the belt and the gear stay still...the drive shaft appears to spin inside the gear. Is this a commonn break? I've read to swap this out with a metal gear. Major take things apart. Glad I enjoy messing with it on the bench as much as I do flying! Dave

I had a 450sa that belt axle spun inside the plastic white belt gear. I could not figure out why my tail was drifting until I finally noticed this problem. I changed to the metal gear front and tail. No more tail drifting but I broke the belt after a few flights later. I then discovered that my belt tension had been always too much.

I started losing tail control and after close exam realized that my plastic tail gear had worn smooth. Since, I have went with the metal gear and had no problems....
