It's sad to say but this year's IRCHA is history. What a great event! It was my first time but it seamed like there was a ton of carnage every day. I was lucky enough to get all my toys home in one piece (due to some pretty easy flying) but I was wondering how many of our RR friends bit the dirt? If so how bad was your crash?

Nope, although I watched a 600N blow it's head off in flight at the flight station next to me. I think the spindle bolts departed/unscrewed. Made a unique sound! Lots of near misses. Here's a noon time demo shot of Markus Kim's Aurora.. two different parts of the flight, both beyond close.

Yep, Crashed my T-rex twice, once doing backwards flight & the other was a slow responding radio & couldn't pull out of a loop!

I was schooled on spectrum by a Bergen Rep. There was so many that I needed to leave on my Tx about 2 min before turning on the Rx so the Tx had a chance to lock on to empty chanels.
The gasser was awesome tho, no incidents!!

and one more thing "DON'T BE AFRAID!"

Yea Baby, IRCHA, NIGHT BLADES AND RUMBALLS

Once again the boys at S.W.A.R.M. came through big. Mike the cook and his buddies had the best party point of the week. If you do IRCHA you grab your buds about 11PM and you drift along EZE-UP row and look for a bunch fo SouthWest Wisconsin helinuts and a big deep-fat fryer. Mike the cook, is busy prepping the cooker for spicy hot chicken wings and mounds of cayenne pepper covered fries. But before you can have any of those you have to get initiated into the tribe with
a RumBall. Imagine a doughnut hole laced with some great Rum. You take a deep breath and "Strike the Pose" just like Captain Morgan and you are now ready for a great night. Last year they popped my cherry with 2 Rumballs along with my new buds from Georgia and then the night went crazy with nightflying and lying. This year my Northern Michigan buds made it to IRCHA, from non-fliers to beginners and flier this year( 20 Made it to IRCHA and the tiki-lamp village at the East end of the line. Needless to say, this year I did 12 Rumballs followed by a like number of recreational amber beverages. Well, with that in mind, my craziest buddy and I went an grabbed my night TREX 450. After a careful pre-flight briefing, I coached my buddy that all the dark area out there was dirt and so keep my baby above the dark area. Well, the TREX was armed and launched and looking good rolling and loop and inverted and we were having a blast. Then splat, I had forgotten to mention that somewhere out in the dark there were a few bright orange pilot cones. You guessed it, we nailed one. So What!one night blade, one blade grip and one white drive gear, it was worth it, best party of the year. Follow-up, next night the guys from SWARM showed up at the Northwest Michigan heli pilots tiki-village and they were all voted in. Expect a SYNERGY of efforts next year as I think the SWARM guys and the NWMich guys will be joining efforts and making it a bigger party and cook-off. Let's grow this, IRCHA late night pot luck party late Friday night with the badest local delicacy being brought to the party and more night helis. BTW 16 year old Eric of SWARM busted the hottest night flight at the Rumball banquet. The kid can get it done, I think it is the grease on his fingers from the hot chicken wings.

after the rumballs and multiple um...beverages (edited) i crashed myself walking back to the truck. I twisted my ankle, dropped my heli and bent the spindle!

Then on Saturday afternoon, I had a boom strike with the knight. Somehow i landed it...only damage, boom, blades, spindle, boom support bracket.

SWARM

Heck yah, I heard that our fellow SWARM guys that didn't want to go to that fancy cocktail lounge "Jokers Wild" went down and joined you guys on Saturday night. They mentioned that we should join efforts next year, and I totally agree!

We will bring our rumballs, tiki torches, and fryer and you guys can bring your stuff!

A big sound system would be fun. Maybe we can get a nice chrome pole and some ladies to 3D on it??

Lots of fun, can't wait for next year!!

Yes, unfortunately I'm a member of the club this year. R90SE went in pretty much knife edge while flying a little too close to the hill on Sunday afternoon.

Menu for next year.
We need some Northeast guys with some Lobsters, MHA can bring the crab cakes, the Southern boys should be able to do a "roast pig" cooking all day, the LARKS guys ought to be able to handle some mudbugs, and the KC guys, some killer BBQ, and the guys out west
can bring the avocadoes and salsa for some killer dips. We expect the
Seattle/Idaho boys to ante-up some smoked salmon and our Canadian friends can bring the BECKS and MOLSONS.

as explained to me if you wait 2 minutes or until the lights on the rx are all locked in it will not have a slow seconded in flight. when there is that many in 1 spot it can take up to 2 minutes to give you a clear channel because it is search all of the others before it locks in.

only you have the power to make no difference!

I brought everything home in predominantly one piece.
Just a few maintenance issues to attend to.

It was fun at the survivor village on Saturday night.
We will definitely have to combine forces for the Friday night party next year.
We even had leftover chicken and RumBalls this year
All of us SWARMers from South East Wisconsin never learned how to go to bed real early. There's nothing wrong with flying till 3am, every day.
It was amazing how quiet all but the east end of the flight line got by 10:00 pm.

Cant wait till next year.

Definately will have to have our own boom-box sound system down at the Survivor End of the line for night antics. We will also have lots more Spread Spektrum TX's so we can dominate the flight stations down around #10 through #14 so we can occupy and blow-out the ends of the boxes into any of the roaming JR team guys. Had them drifting down and blowing to the flight stations and over our heads all the time.
