so I just got back from flying my Raven after an extensive rebuild. Everything was going well, she was flying like a dream. Then all of the sudden in mid hover, I lost all control. The helicopter went in sideways. Surprisingly, none of the expensive stuff was damaged but check this, I completely ripped out the mainshaft. I have never been able to damage the upper frames, but this time, it's totaled. What caused the crash is that the receiver crystal came out (lucky me ). Luckily for me, I have 2 more sets of the upper frames and most of the parts I need to rebuild it. However, I'm giving you guys a heads up, once I rebuild this machine, I'm taking all my stuff out of it and putting it up for sale. Now I know I can't blame the helicopter for the receiver xtal (I should have checked it anyway), but seriously, I've had more mishaps with this machine than all of my helicopters combined. Just seems like it doesn't like me anymore... even though I really try to take care of it.

So yeah, I won't be putting it up for sale until september (moving into new room and such) but here's a list of what I'll be selling and I'd like to sell it to a Century guy as a complete package

Raven 50 kit (will be rebuilt)
full metal rotorhead with red dampeners
CF tail boom supports
Raptor tail pitch slider mod (rapid pirouette rate)
Metal tail gears
Gray speed up gear
CF and ali torque tube
1 extra set of upper frames
1.5 extra set of lower frames
1 extra servo tray set
Extra landing gear struts
New bearings for the main shaft (6 extra)
New bearings for main grips (6 extra)

Bag of goodies (various items, not sure what's all there):
Mainshafts
plastic grips
plastic mixing arms
tail gears
tail gear box
tail hubs
main gears
seesaw
gray paddles
etc. etc.

Given all that I'm putting into this package, I'm hoping/expecting to get a good deal out of it. I haven't set a price yet, but I just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

Thanks turbo, I really appreciate it. For those who are interested, feel free to make me offers and suggested prices. I'm curious to know what others would be willing to pay for all of this.

Sorry to hear about your mishaps. I am also going through a rough patch myself. Believe me, it could be worse...

I think the gremlins are out...

Yeah I know about the tape, I have the xtal taped on my other helicopters, I really don't know why I overlooked it, but what's done is done. I just seem to have bad luck with this helicopter Sad part is, I REALLY like it...

you know i am thinking the same way. i bought a new hawk pro and have never been able to keep it in the air for more than a couple weeks. first the toki motor wouldnt run. bad carb. screwed with that thing for 6 months. bought a os37, solved that problem after 2 crashes with the pos toki. then i broke two countershafts. fixed that with the extra bearing/loctite method. then(believe it or not) i forget to refuel it, but had enough fuel left to get in the air and fly about 2 minutes before crashing. crashes mostly caused by mechanical failures and the fuel one because my mind aint what it used to be.
the thing flys great(when it stays together) and its tons of fun flying helis, but i am just burned out from crashes and rebuilds.
not trying to flame anybody or any manufacturer.
guess i'm just not heli material.
its still sitting in my garage from the no fuel crash. cant muster the energy to fix it.

I've had a few planes like that, always an issue. One finally had way too much epoxy in it to fly and the others I got sorted out and flew until they got rekitted.

Keep the Raven. I love mine and even got a Raptor loving buddy of mine to buy one. It is a good machine.

Been there

Had a few that I thought were haunted. I'll fix it one more time then again. Hope you stick with here. It is a really robust design. My last one was built 2 years ago with umpteen million flights on it. With no failures over the span. I think except for the few new plant coming up to speed like the countershafts that went out it is a heck of a tank ! It is an unpredictable one in a crash I seen bad landing tip overs cost 200 and ones driven in only break 20 bucks in stuff. Over all the repair cost is kinda low.

I was going to part with mine but I think she may hit air again with a few custom mods to try to keep up with the newer designs

sofar, i have found that helicopters in many ways are like cars.

the more you fly it, and the older a heli gets, the more wear and tear happens, and more things start to go wrong.

when i got my vigor, it was a dream, i could fly gallon after gallon with absolutly no worry about something going on. but as it got older. i had failure after failure. last summer i burned a whole 2 gallons of fuel because everytime i got to the field, something would go wrong.

now i have the pradator, about 16 gallons through it since i started flying it since the spring. i have had a few problems here and there, but nothing like what the JR machine gave me!!!

Yea another good point

My first predator is 5 years old now and it really has all the stock parts and even though I tear down in the winter is still on the stock BB and ball liks.

I shimmed BB sized bearing blocks the works when i built but if you do it the thing is a tank also !!

I also still love the way it flies, There are other lighter designs like the hawk but if your not up to wizz bang 3D and dont need a status symbol Align 50 at 400 the raven is a good buy for the majority of the heli community.

I had a haunted evo 50 that gave me nothing but grief!

spent 3 months trying to get it to fly right and just got fed up like you did and sold it.

my raven 50 was probably the most durable heli I have ever had,and it seemed to take crashes very well.

sometimes you just have to move on and try something different, for me I bought a knight 50 to try out.
