i recently got my hands on a 601 converted from a 502 using a 9254 tail servo (set to wide pulse width)

my problem is drifting.

it drifts on the ground with the engine off, it drifts in a hover, it drifts when in ff.

it's almost as if the sensor is sensing a movement that isnt there.

i recently blew up my engine and right before that happened it was drifting really bad. i had 4 clicks of right trim in it keeping it steady.

the rotation is with torque, not very fast but fast enough to do about one rotation per 30 seconds without any correction.

it also doesnt seem to do this all the time, sometimes i can take off and do some flying around and then i come back to hover it will be off.

i looked in the pulse width setting in the menu. it goes from 1200-1800 in non linear movement and sometimes with a sporadic jump. i unplugged my servo to test narrow pulse width as well. it does the same thing from about 500us to 940us.

i have tried resetting the gyro to no avail and so far im at my wits end on this problem.

my setup is

r50 titan
ys 50
8311's on cyclic and hitec 5925 on throttle
601/9254
duralite 5.3v reg and apogee 2200mah pack

it's not a matter of setting the gyro in rate mode because it only does this in hh mode. the heli can just sit there and then all of a sudden it will begin moving to full throw. normal mode doesnt do this, the gyro just sits there. i thought it was super sensitive and trying to dampen out stuff just sitting there so i moved the tail to correct it and it just started drifting again.

i have tried a different radio (2 spektrum dx7s), no subtrim or trim on them.

any ideas?

gain is 36% in hh
26% in nor

i have tried up to 45% gain and down to 14% gain. just speeds up or slows down the drift.

it's almost as if the neutral pulse of the servo is off, but it doesnt seem to be.

Did you try flying at different rpm's?

I found that sometimes when the engine is not completely in tune this will have an effect on the gyro when in HH mode(resonance).
You could try upping or lowering your headspeed(and therefore influencing your engine rpm) to see if this makes a difference.

I assume there are no visible resonances (tailfin most likely)?

make sure you have no sub trim and ect. and as far as you using the trim. each time you turn on your heli you will be adding more trim. (((make sure you have no sub trim and ect)))

no trim or subtrim on the radio.
the weird thing about it is that it seems to happen when the engine is off and the heli is just sitting on the grond which seems to me like it wouldnt be a vibration issue.

i do fly at different headspeeds and it is there in all three of them.

Oops,

Sorry for my bad reading

The only other thing I can think of is that the sensor is at fault.

I guess you don't have a buddy with a seperate 601 to do some swaptests?

hmmm, now you mention this problem, my 611 (not flown yet) is also showing the bench problem in HH.....

Only next week i can test it...

Marc
