My R50 setup: 3x425BB-1x625 throttle-OS50H.FF blade,GY401,headspeed:1950 idl1, 4.8V rx pack.

When doing forward flip, the response is very slow. worst if it's backflip.. Can anyone advise? is it becos of the servo speed? Travel adj for elevator D100% U100%..

Pls advice. thanks.

Probably not enough servo or too much cyclic pitch.

What blades are you running?

When doing forward flip, the response is very slow.
What do you mean by "response"? Does the engine bog? Is the speed of the flip too slow? If the problem is the speed of the flip, what dampners are you using, what flybar paddles are you using, what position are the balls for the long links on the mixing arms?

Engine is not bogging as i run on the zero alpha governor. it's the flipping action of the heli the moment i execute the movement in the tx.. very different in simulator.. it's very slow.. my tx is JR 9xii.

the dampner is still the stock blue one. And the paddle is the white paddle. As for the mixing link.. i'm not quite sure what do u meant by that..

Try green paddles and decent servos.

A slow servo would only affect the initail roll/flip rate
not the overall. Lighter paddles and cyclic pitch will increase your rate....should have about 6 degrees deflection.

Most likley the same it just seems different because of
the tail moves faster in the foward flip.

Those servos are ok for flipping around. Headspeed of 1950 is good enough for most tricks.

A few things I tried and worked, some already mentioned.

1. Increase your cyclic to 7degree
2. Use green paddles
3. Use the outer hole on the washout mixer arm
4. Red dampers
5. Metal washout hub if you plastic one is sloppy, just the hub is enough.

4 and 5 don't really make you flip faster, but they definately improve the response a lot.

If all else fails, try borrowing a set of blades from someone at the field. I have had ok performance with the funkey blades, nothing ballistic, but definately acceptable.

oh.. i'm using the stock white color paddle from TT. Anyway i hv just changed it to green one but yet to test flight it..

thanks for all replies. btw i jus dont quite understand 1 and 3. can anyone explain further.

for no 1. does it mean that the travel adj in the elevator setting must be set to a higher percentage other than 100% up and down, ie instead of D100% U100% set it to D120% U120% and etc..?

for no. 3 is this the cyclic(elevator) servo horn, the links are to be set to the most outer hole on the servo horn?

just to add to the pm reply, no, not the elevator servo arm, but the washout hub mixer arm, that is those arm that attach to the washout hub and the oval loop linkage. You will see 2 holes on each arm. Use the outer one for more deflection of the flybar paddle.

pm replied. i hv checked the that the linkage ball on the flybar control lever (on the washout assembly), it's on the outer hole which is recommended for 3D flying.

Btw, the measured pitch setting in idle1 is +10deg and -10deg.

i have just learnt and adjusted my cyclic pitch (both ail/elev) from +/- 3 deg to +/-7 deg.. Hope this can solve the slow for/aft flip rate... and hopefully the roll rate which i yet to try..

Just curious.. will +/- 7 deg in R50V2 cause boom strike? And what is the max deflection R50 can go? +/- 8 deg?

might want to use a bit of expo on your first flight after adjustment to soften the feel around center, if not you might find it a bit twitchy and sensitive. After you have gotten used to the feel, reduce the expo gradually.

The 3degree of cyclic probably accounts for your slow flip rate, actually I am suprise that it actually does flip with 3degree.

You might get boom strike with the blue dampers when you bog the head too much. Not that you will never boom strike with harder dampers, but it is harder to. Just keep the headspeed constant and you will be fine.

At the first place i didn't really know there is such a measurement called cyclic pitch since i picked up heli flying. And probably the headspeed was high enough and coupled with the altitude that i was flipping was high. Hence managed to flip with a 3 deg...

will follow ur instruction on the expo for the next flight after these adjustment. thanks.

One more query:

My D/R setting in my TX for Aileron, elevator.. in idle 1 is around 65% and Exp set to LIN. Will the heli fly too twitchy?

twitchy or not depends on yourself.

I am running 7degree of pitch with 10%expo.
