This may be a stupid question but I just wanna make sure,

gonna upgarade my 430l motor to a medusa 28-40-3400.
I runing FP 2070 3s packs and a CC 35.

I know the medusa draws alot more amps and heats up alot quicker than the 430l.

How much shorter run times am I gonna expect and is my CC35 sufficent enought to run it? Planning on doing 13t.

I dont want any fires to happen.

Expect a 6 minute run time. And by that I mean make sure you have landed at 6 minutes. Your motor will draw power fast and between the cut-off and shutoff is about 30 seconds so make sure you use a timer. If you going to be banging sticks you may want to cut it down to 5 min for safety.

You don’t want the Madusa 28-40-3400 as it will draw too much power and is not recommended for the Trex. One of the best motor you can put in a 450 is the Medusa 28-32-3400. I have setup several of these with the CC-35 on 3s and 4s using TPX2070 packs. The 3s setup is very strong and your packs run about 100-110F and the motor about 140F. On 4s the power is unbelievable. The packs can get up to 130F and the motor might hit as much as 165F. Make sure you put a heat sink on the motor.
I am running the 28-32-3400 w/10t pinion, a Jazz 40-6-18 on 4s TPX2070 and it will hold a head speed of 3300 no matter what you throw at it and I get about 6 min. flights.

Man thats HOT!! With the JGF500th at 4s i can run 6min of hard 3D and i put 1485mah back , and i can let my finger on the motor for ever with no heatsink and the batt. is just warm!

That’s because you are not pulling as much wattage (power). This is a powerful setup but not over the thermal limits. Want to drag race??

I love my MR28-40-3400. Nothing can touch it in the way of torque. I used to run it 3 cell...loved it. I now run it 4 cell at 85% love it even more. I am using a cc45 not a cc35 though. Still I haven't damaged any batteries or esc's and have unparalleled power.

dynamic,

do you have a heat sink on yours?

Im thinking reducing the run time a minute and throwing a heatsink on.

I'm sorry but they've got the same wind. The long can just has more torque.

I have good things to say about the Medusa 28-40-3400 and it is a 3s motor I would recommend. On 4S, this would be a beast! I run the 28-32-2800 with an 10T pinion and it is a beast!

You will have a high amp draw with the Medusa but it is better than some motors like the 450F and the Hacker A20-6XL.

On 13T, the medusa gives me 4.5 minutes with an FP 2170, putting back about 1200 mAH back. That's fairly hard flying at 100-95-100 throttle curve.

May be the same RPM, but it’s NOT the same wind. You think you can get extra torque for free? It will cost you, in amps.

In the photo below look at the (Io@8V) #'s. This is current draw, unloaded, @ 8 volts. 1.4amp for the 32mm can and 2.4amp for the 40mm can. That's almost a 40% increase. Specs don’t lie!!!

On a side note if you can keep the 28-40-3400 from cooking the batteries, I’ll bet it’s a rocket ship!
And I thought mine was powerfull!

Indeed it is a rocket.

When using a 3cell I got about 1 minute less with the MR then with the align 3550. With my 4cell at 85% I get a little longer then the 3cell. The motor does get hot however it has yet to cause me any issues.

I have nothing bad to say about the 28-40-3400 at all.

Ok I stand corrected. The RPM is the same. There is extra torque but I can still fly it without cooking the batteries. Flightpower, ThunderPower Extreme and Align 22c all work well with the 28-40-3400 without cooking it. Just make sure you're not flying them too long.

10-tooth pinion source?

I'm looking for a source for a 9 or 10 tooth pinion for my Medusa 28-40-3400. Where are you guys getting them. The headspeed is way wicked with the 11 tooth.
