I have a progcard coming, but was wondering if the default settings are useable? After reading the very short manual, it sounds like it will auto detect and optimize for whatever is connected to it. Last thing I want to do is strip a $40 main gear out of haste.

Here you go
http://runryder.com/helicopter/t309818p1/

when you get to step #2, move the throttle stick to the center. This will allow the PJ to learn the full throtthe range when you set low/high stick positions using the fixed position.

Have fun!

Also, loosen the motor mount, slide the motor away from the main gear and secure it prior to programming . You can even test the running of the setting at this position of the motor, safety is first!

Well, the xle got some brief airtime today. Very smooth ship, but the headspeed was low, about 1550 rpm at 90% on the throttle curve. What settings do I need to get the headspeed up? I'm using fixed endpoints and auto rpm.

Chris, It may have some to do with your battery. What batteries did you use. Also, send me your PJ program card settings for me to help troubleshoot.

My settings:

Brake: off
Batt: LiPo
Batt. empty: Slow Down
Cut off: 2.7v
Start up: Smooth
Timing: Auto
RPM control: On
Start up: 8sec
Stick pos: Fixed

Set motor off: bottom stick
Set full gas: top stick
Set brake: <skip>

My LHS let me borrow a Watt's Up so I could see some quick flight data. For a 3 min hover I got:

27.56Ap
45.50 Vm
1316.2 Wp
44.0 Wh
.944 Ah

This is on a 32-4 Actro on 12s TP Evo 20

The heli did seem more powerful today, but there was no way for me to tach it.

O.K. you have an inadequate gearing for the 32-4 (415KV, 90% eff). The XL-E comes with a 10=1 gear ratio. let's do a head speed calculation:

(38V x .9 x 415)/10 = 1420 RPM at max load
(50v x .9 x 415)/10 = 1867 RPM no load

If you want to keep this motor, then purchase a 14 teeth pinion for it, and you will get 2000 rpm.

The hp (watts) will increase with RPM.

My manual says it comes with 8.25:1 ??? If it is 10:1, no wonder I have been chasing my tail!

thanks 'duc!

8:25 ratio is for the IC version, I think for OS 91. The electric came with a 12 teeth pinion, the main gear has 120 teeth that is 10:1.

Is main gear 132T ?
So i guess the ratio is 11:1 With 12T(motor gear).

bozzlu, you are correct it's 132T. Chris that makes it even worst. Even with the 14T pinion, you won't get the 2000+ rpm. I don't know if Jan makes 15T pinion or not.

Looks like 1936 rpm with the 14T. That should be a decent headspeed for a 90 size, right?

Yes, just that yours will generate lots of torque at that speed and may has tail reaction issue due to high torque low tail speed. Check Revolution Model to see if they have a 15T.

On the other hand, if you are not doing lots of tail flying and hard 3D, then you're O.K.

Christ, I just checked Revolution Model site, and they do carry a 15T pinion. You are in luck.

There are the few, the proud, the MPXL-E pilots in the US, you are one of them, that must support one another!

15T pinion came in yesterday :^) Only took 5 days to get from the UK to California.

Headspeed is much better! :^D

I put the datalogger on it and with the new pinion, the motor put out 3000W, about 4hp at 12 degrees of pitch. The Flightpowers were strong for the first 2 minutes, after that the voltage drop caused a noticeable drop in headspeed.
