My wife bought me a Trex 450S CF for Fathers day back in May but unfortunately I have yet to finish a successful flight on it. I have about 4yrs of experience on a Raptor30 and 2yr exp on a Freya 90. I sold both of them about 3yrs ago with the birth of our first child. So while I've been away for a few years I'm still very familiar with the hobby.

Anyway this thing has been nothing but headache after headache and I was hoping to get some sage advice. The front tail pulley broke loose from the shaft and started freewheeling during my maiden flight causing minor damage (~$10). Well after a 1wk wait for parts I received Micro Heli's tail gear upgrade (MH-TX4018SGP) from an online shop this afternoon. After an hour or so it's installed but guess what! The gear seems to be too small. It will not engage the lower main gear. WTF? How many different versions of trex upgrade parts are floating out there? Is it too much to ask that upgrade parts be drop-in ready? I don't even know if I got the right part cause there's no contact info what-so-ever on the receipt or on their website.

It's my hope that someone here can tell me where I went wrong and how much more it's gonna cost me. I'm aware that MicroHeli sells a tail gear reduction. I don't wish to slow the tail down... I'd like it to spin at it's "stock" speed. I just need to know the gearing part numbers to do that. Is there a lower main gear that I need to purchase that is larger than stock?

Thanks for the help and with any luck I may be flying by Labor Day.

106/25T; the one you have got, MH-TX4018SGP, is for the 109/21T. so you will need a 109T auto-gear for that microheli shaft thing you have, or you can buy the uh 25T gear seperately for the shaft you've bought

I think I've got the correct replacement part on order now. The confusion came from the fact that the reduction gears are qouted at all the retailers as though it's an upgrade however it came on my heli stock. I puchased the old gearset thinking that it was the current "stock" gearset and it aparently has been discontinued or is only on the plastic framed versions of the trex.

According to http://www.flightbox.co.uk/acatalog...ccessories.html the 25T gear has the same part# that I listed earlier MH-TX4018SFG. Hopefully this fixes the problem.

Since I've got you here are there any other known "problem areas" such as the one I've just experienced? Is everything else in the tail good to go? How about the main rotor? Thanks!

the tail should be OK when thats done, as it seems to be the weakest-link in the t/drive system. the rest of the tail is spot on; keep an eye on the swash though, you might want to go for the full ally version.
