Best govenor

The best govenor for a large heli is Futabas GY-611. It cost upwards of #380 but it is worth it if you are going eD with a large Heli.

This hobby is WAY too expensive!!

GY-611 is a gyro not a governor. Futaba GV1 is the governor. I have it in all my helis. It works well.

Just do it.

Best the price? welll i am designing one now,it cost only $10...hehe..

If Mr Li wants to lower his Multigov's price, it will be perfect.... ($85 compare to $10 cost....) he must make some good money from it...

Microchip 18F2680 or 4680 = $4
+ Honeywell ss443a or ss466a = $2.80
+ wires and carbon frames =$ 2
+ PCB = $2
= $10.80

compare to $85... heheeh.. he made some good money...

Well, I should say it is a very good governor and the cost is way less than Futaba GV1, but still.... as an engineer.... i respect your work, but not the price...

As a retired egganeer designing microchip equipment, I found out that there is a vast chasm between componet cost and final marketing and distrabution cost. See, that proves I'm an engineer, can't spell. I was always frustrated that I spent countless days getting every penny out of a product, then seeing the final price way out beyond what I would sell it for. Of course I would probably gone broke in a year.
Good luck, hope you really do come out with a new gov.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

The extra manufacturing cost for the GV-1 is some bling and extra weight that's not really needed, plastic casing, etc I think Bob Li's MultiGov is fairly priced, made by an r/c heli pilot, for r/c heli pilots, and he listens to feedback, and makes minor revisions to his product when needed (default threshold values that can easily be programmed into older units)

It is more than $10 if you make your own. You did not count the cost of the LCD display, how about the time to develop the software inside the microchip too assuming you know the algorithm already.

Mabe we are off the thread, but in addition to your valid points, product support is always a major cost and headache, no matter how bullet proof the design. You have to listen to and support everybody you sell to, including the ones who connect the red wire to the black wire and the black to red (poof). I went thru this with a product for weedeater boats and belive me it was appalling what some users did to the product and then want the money back. Yes, we returned thier money or sent a replacement with detailed instructions on how not to do that again.

And after looking at MultiGov
web site I think that is the one I will buy since it appears they provide excellent support and the price of the device and display is good.

I think about the hereafter. I go somewhere to get something, then wonder what I'm here after ?

Pretty tough to beat a revlock ($79) for pure performance bang for the buck. But some of the newer govs with lcd's, gain, different modes etc are pretty cool for the money.

I'd likely do the multi-gov or atg if I didn't have anything.

Hate to say this but you are way off base. The current processor in the MultiGov is a Microchip 18LF4580 which costs me close to $8 alone. The carbon brackets cost more than you say and each 6" extension costs almost $2 wholesale in large quantity (crazy that two wires cost almost half the CPU cost; no wonder buying a 6" extension at the hobby store costs $4-6!). When you add in all the additional parts (which there are many), surface mount assembly cost/labor, product packaging/manual, it is no where near $10.

This does not include all the software development time and testing I have put into the product. Not all governors perform the same -- you are also paying for the software; I have tried to make MultiGov one of the best. I have designed the product so the firmware is upgradeable+free.

If you think buying hardware with software is overpriced, how about buying computer software which comes on a DVD worth only $1 or $2?

I released MultiGov because I love flying. When you compare what you get with other products, you will see that it is very competitive. Despite what you may think, no one is getting rich from this.
