best to start about head high and get used to throttle hold switch.while in hover flip throttle hold and let heli settle to ground.once you are competent at head high then move to about 50ft,flip throttle hold and give slight neg pitch to keep rotor spinning, then when about 10-15ft slow desent by adding pos collective.this will take some practice and the sim works great, use a 3D 60sz sim heli.most people never practice this and destroy their helis if the power goes off.i have landed broken helis and dead stick helis using autos.

a rotor spinning at 2300rpm such as trex 600 with power on,when in auto will reach 2500rpm+,all this energy gets used just before landing.
