I'm having trouble getting the main metal gear off, it appears that there is a screw inside of the stem but it only turns a half turn in each direction. Usually the gears pull right off.

My guess is that screw is the end of the feedback pot. If you ever get the main gear off, you're going to have to stick that screwdriver back down inside the gear and re-center your servo by turning the pot.

And hope that you didn't reef on it and try to turn it farther than it wanted to turn, or you could have damaged the pot and screwed up the servo.

no. I managed to get it off. I just pulled it straight out. the adjustment pot turns the gear beyond their endpoints though. with power you can hear it grinding gears as you adjust it. you have to adjust it minute amounts to center it and it doesn't really function correctly.
