would a 1500 or larger be too heavy?
...depends on your flying style I dont do anything inverted or 3D yet so weight doesnt bother me I'll take the runtime tradeoff...I've been throwing the batts for my mini titan on the HBK its a 11.1 2100 Mah and I get like 12-14 min flight time but I just lowered my pinion so I'll problably get a little more now......you may even want to go with a 10T...the motor in mine is a little overkill so I had to tame it down for my style,I want stability and time right now

9 tooth punch outs

With my HDX300 outrunner, 9 tooth, 1320 TP, and throttle 100,90,100 my punch outs are decent and head speed is not at all insane. The punch outs are nothing to brag about but they are good enough for now. What will give me some insane punch outs. Would it have to be a better motor or more head speed with a 10 tooth ?

JustGoFly 400DH on a 9 tooth pinion is the most powerful setup I've seen on the King. I flew it on the 8 tooth and you can see it in my videos I posted yesterday.

JGF 400

Is that motor the same physical size as say the HDX300 ? I hear that the JGF motors are very strong. What size battery do you use with it. What C rating and mAh ?

I've not seen the hdx-300 so I can;t comment on size difference.

i use a TP-1320mAh 11.1v prolite pack and one of the MegaPower 1350mAh 11.1v packs with it. The TP pack is good for 17 amps continous and I think the megapower pack is around 20 amps continuous.

Is that a King V1 L0stS0ul I noticed the frame looks like supergear and blade or honeybee frame? And is it belt or shaft and also does it weigh in lighter than V2?

No Really I am the club President!!!

Yes it'sa V1 with the super landing skids. With the skids and the t-rex canopy it comes in about the same weight as the King V2. It's the shaft drive tail which I never once had a problem with.

The motor does not come with pinions. JustGoFly sells an 8 tooth 48 pitch pinion and that's what I used on mine. It's not the .05 mod that the main gear is but I never once had mesh problems with it. E-Flite sells a 9 tooth pinion that I have also used that fits this motor and is .05 mod.

Yeah I never cared for the king enough to put one of my bergs in it those are in my SJM400 and Dragonus. The king died a sad death unfortunatly. It's an early version V1. For those that don't know the V1 went through about 5 upgrades. I finally stripped the main gear on it after a year and could no longer find a replacment gear so the heli went into the scrap yard. That was a sad day The first video I posted was the last flight of the heli. You can hear me at the very end of the video as the heli is spooling down I say something along the lines of "that doesn't sound good" and yup that was the end of the heli. It would have cost me over $70 in parts to bring it up to date with the current revision of the V1 and I wasn't willing to spend that on the heli anymore.

Under the hood

The ESC is under the Batt. All my power equipment is away from the RX. I couldn't get it set up so I could unplug it with the canopy on. I have to plug it in then slap on the canopy. No big deal

BTW thanks for the nudie pics dubs thats almost how I'm wired. Except for that awesome battery tray which is what I was interested in.

rccarguy is that a gy240 or 401 up front there if so how well does it work I know in priciple it should be the same.

It's a 401 connected to an Airtronics digital servo. The gyro was being used on another 300 class that has been temporarily decomissioned due to parts "borrowing" for the King2. It works quite well on whatever I put it on, but it does take some time to get it right. Servo neutral position is crtical to getting the tail stable, I'm still fine tuning the King2 to get it to hands-off on the rudder control, I'm almost there. Where you really notice the difference is in reverse flight, once the 401 is dialed in flying backwards is arrow straight. The RCE 500 I use on another 300 class needs minor control inputs to keep it straight flying backwards.

I need a gyro to replace this 401 on the donor heli, this time I think I'll try the Logitech 2100 T, I've heard good things about them.

GY401

With the GY401, you can get the tail set up as close as possible in rate mode and if you still walk a little bit you can lower your rudder trims sensitivity if you have the option on your TX. Lower the amount the trim adjusts the rudder each beep. Then fine tune the tail with that. It's better than trying to move the servo mount a thousandth of an inch by hand to get the final adjustment.

went brushless w/ 10 tooth

ok now were talking ! hdx brushless with 10 tooth is like a roket! the motor came with a plastic fan installed on top of the motor that keeps it cool after 10 solid min of hard flight ! the eflite motor and 10 tooth was smokin hot and no where near the perf. i had to mod the motor tray a little but it was worth it . the g90 keeps it rock solid even with the stock servos , i dont see the need for anything better , the futaba radio is a must for sure though , fine tune it and it flys as good as my larger high dollar helis ! as it sits i only have 240.00 in it , for that price you cant go wrong . next thing to get will be the new blade 400 ! cant wait

I am unstable and have no safe mode

Balancing HBK2 and Batery pack??

My HBK2 is alittle tail heavy and I need the balance it out. Thing is I'm only using the Eflite 11.1v 800mAh 3s Lipo battery pack from my out CPP. When I put the battery pack in the HBK2 in the front, it is still tail heavy. What can I do to balance my HBK2? Can I add some weights to the front? Open for suggestions. Thanks.

You can extend the battery tray or build another tray on top of "original" esc mounting area. 800mah is really on the VERY small side. You can extend the battery tray by sticking a 85mm carbon tail blade from the larger heli and using velcro to secure the battery and extension. I found good balance with 1500-1800mah packs.

Adding weight will work, but why not use a larger pack, instead of adding dead weight.
