I have probably overdone it but I have 12....
4 FP 25C 2170's
4 TP 25C 2070's and
4 AT 25C 2200's
I think someone has a Lipo problem. Lipo's Anonymous would like to give you some pamphlet's.

To tell you the truth the FP and AT to me are about the same....seem to be a little more powerfull than the TP but they are a slight bit more capacity......anyway I am happy with all of them...the AT have not got as many cycles as the others becasue they are newer....but so far so good......

I am just starting out and Lipos/chargers seem to be as complicated as setting up the heli!

Presently, I have 2 Flight Power Evo Lite 2500 mAh. Is that too much mAh? What would be the difference between let's say 2500 and 2170? I am just a beginner at present, hovering and moving around a little. No 3D in the near future! No money for crashes.

I have a small basic eFlite Celectra charger and I am looking at getting either a better one or more of the same of these. It works great (somewhat slow) but I keep reading about these top of the line chargers and wonder; WHY!? Please help!

How many is the magic number? I would think between 4 and 8. Should they all be the same mAh? Brand? Weight?

Love the $500 goes up, $200 comes down, very adequate!

The 18c batts are ok, if you want balls out power go for the 25c batts. Some batts are bricks and really tax your system. Some motors tax your system worse and some esc's shouldn't even be on the market. Its up to you to get the info and deside whats what. Buy cheap buy twice. Like the American way, don't have time to do things right the first time but always have time to do it over...

PS: Astro 109 with new chip has my vote. At least get a charger that has a readout screen.

The Evolite 2500 is an excellent battery with PLENTY of power for even the 430XL.

You really need a better charger, one with a readout for mAH charged back. This is very important because you need to time your flights so that you're not putting back more than 80% of the pack's rated capacity. You also need to make sure the cells are balanced with each charge.

The FMA Cellpro 4S is a very good charger for this application.

Common Sense, Integrity is the key to sucess.
Do I really need 25C batteries for "regular" beginner flying? Would a 2500 mAh theoretically not give me more flight time than a 2100 mAh? The 2500 Evolites are the same weigh as regular 2100's...

I found a 35Ahr sealed car battery at the local spares place. It has a small carry handle and is light and easy enough to carry to the flight line. I use my ordinary swallow charger at 3A to get my FP 2170 charged in just over an hour. I have 4 batteries is total: 1xFP2170 25C, 1xFP2150 20C and 2xFP1800 20C.

The FP2170 25C rocks!

I'm glad to hear that! My motor is actually a 430L, not XL, or is it the same thing? 430L - 3550 KV to be exact.

If I were to get a better charger, could I not then figure out how much flight time it takes me to get 20% out of the battery, then I could make sure not to pass that time and charge the battery in the basic charger that I have; no?

How long should I be flying the FP EL 2500 to not go down lower than 2000 mAh?

Thanks.

No, 430XL is 3700 KV, more powerful and amp-hungry then the 430L.

I think you have it backwards, you can use 80%, leaving 20% in the pack. Assuming you don't change anything on the heli and you don't change your flying style, yes, you can just fly for a set time and the mAH will be relatively constant every flight. But, if you get a better charger, why would you still use the old one? I guess it could cut down on your charge time if you use both, but you really need to use balancing chargers only.
How long should I be flying the FP EL 2500 to not go down lower than 2000 mAh?
That can't be answered without knowing your exact setup and how you fly. Even then, it would be a guess. I run the 430XL with 12T pinion and fly relatively hard for 6 minutes. That uses right around 1700mAH, less than 70%. I stop there to help extend the packs' life and to have more consistent power throughout the flight.

I would guess with the 430L, easy flying, around 8 minutes would be safe.

I have 6-2100mA packs. I almost never charge at the field. For charging I have two Triton chargers and the ElectriFly 4 output LiPo charger. For the Lipo's, I use ElectriFly almost exclusively while using the Tritons for batteries where I want to know how much current they took while charging.

Bee Flyer, I guess the reason for using both would surely be to double up on the recharging time. Do batteries need to be balanced each and every charge? Some people are saying that they are balancing their cells only after 3-5 charges. i personally have a blinky which can be used with the cheap Celectra even if I were to get a more expensive charger. Is there any reason to get a more expensive charger than the FMA Cellpro which seems to be recommended by all?

I don't think Morris has a problem - he just told us about the other LIPOs he has. The post is about T-Rex 450 lipos, but he 'fessed up!

I, for one, also have a total of 11 Lipos if I have to count the 2x400, 2x800, 2x1200 and 1070 that are used for my small planks.

Folks,

This hobby is additive, I am very sure about this.

I do not really have a problem with LIPO but, this is the best power source I have. I have a nitro but my wife does not like it, because... LOL she does not like color of the fuel and this is true.

Then I got three free LIPO with the second hand Trex 600. By second hand, I mean two flights, both hovering and one was me. A good friend of mine built his own 600 but surely he is not a good builder. He was not happy with it and decided to move to a 90. He sold me everything (including three big LIPO and one Rx LIPO; exclude the gyro, tail servo and Rx) at, guess what, USD 500. So why not. Furthermore, I loss my Sceadu today in a heavy sudden rain. The heavy shower came so sudden and washed my Sceadu into a nearby pond from high above. I guess I would stay with all LIPO for a while....
