Just curious, how many Lipos do you own? Do you charge them lipos at the field? If so, what 12V source do you use to charge them?

Thanks

That is why I've avoided the bigger electrics, you've probably got close to $1500 or more just in your batteries and chargers. I'm jealous I would love to switch to electric but I'm too poor

I have 4 3s packs for my 450. Two 16C aligns that puff every flight but just won't die and two skyshark 20c that are doing pretty good.

Only when the car's battery voltage drops too low.

I have 4 3s 2100mah packs for my T-Rex 450 and 4 6s 5000mah packs for my T-Rex 600, 1 charger, which charges 4 packs at a time for my 3s pack, and 1 charger for my 6s packs...and yes I do charge at the field.

I think 3 lipo's are the magic number to have for a 450. 4 is easier, but costs more obviously.

Whether 3s or 4s I was always able to keep flying with minor downtime. 1 pack in the rexy, one pack cooling off, one charging at 2c. 4 packs I might be able to charge at 1c.

I charge off a marine deep cycle, sometimes my car, just have to be careful not to break any toes with that beast deep cycle.

You can charge off your car battery, but I hear that they are not the best choice, and it could shorten the car battery life.

Having said that I have charged probably 8-10 3s packs before even thinking about starting up the Jeep.

6 total. I like having 4 good batteries. With 4 and my charger I can fly as long as I want while taking turns with the other people I fly with.
  • one DN 15C 2150 with a couple hundred flights on it
  • one align 16C 2100
  • one sky shark 20C 2100
  • one Thunder power extreme 2200
  • two Fight Power Evo25 2170

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Five TP 3S 2100s. I charge at the field with FMA Cellpro 4S, and if I want to charge two at a time an Orbit Pocketlader.

For field power I use two 12AH UPS batteries in a nifty box I found that fits them perfectly. I also will use a 'jump pack' with a 28Ah battery. A bit overkill, but I also have a Honda EU2000i generator, and an Alinco power supply (if I ever get a Trex600 that will be perfect).

The number of batteries really depends on you. If I chat a little and watch others fly for a bit, 3 packs is plenty. If I am alone at the field, 5 works for me.

Found an old pic of the UPS batteries, not in their case:
