I'm just about to buy a secondhand Maxi Joker 1,
>is the battery compartment the same size as the Joker 2.
I've been reading with interest about using A123 cells from dewalt 36v packs,
>How many cells are in a dewalt pack, I think it's 10, but are they in parallel with 20 per pack?

I heard there is some info online somewhere about making your own 12s2p packs from dewalt 36v, has anyone got the link?

The dewalt packs contain 10 cells in series with 2300mAh capacity.

For the Joker you will require 12s2p so 24 cells per pack (giving a capacity of 4600mAh). I have been using them for a while now and am very happy with them. I purchased mine from Brian at Tanicpacks. This is a more expensive route than making your own but it is less hassle and still cheaper than Lipos. The packs came with balance tabs already fitted by Brian and are charged as two 6s2p sections. They could be charged as 12s if you have a suitable charger. The pack can be seen in my Gallery.

I do not know if this pack will fit the Joker1. The dimensions are:

LxBxH - 320 x 52mm x 70mm

To take apart the Dewalt packs check here:

To assemble a pack check here:

(I hope there is no issue with posting these links here. If there is I will remove them
I have drawn a wiring schematic of my 12s2p pack which I uploaded to my gallery so it should be available to view soon. Hope it makes sense. PLEASE HAVE SOMEONE CHECK THIS OVER BEFORE YOU USE IT - I am not an electrician!!

Regards

Fergus

Thanks furgus,

so to make up 12s2p pack, I'll need 3x dewalt packs, that will cost at least $300 + shipping.

How much did you pay for your tanic pack?

Anyone know the dimensions of the joker 1 battery compartment?

A123's will *not* fit the Joker 1 battery compartment unless you do some rebuilding. The battery compartment of the Joker 1 is built for NiMh's which are smaller (shorter) than A123's.

Gary, at tppacks.com is making a123 construction kits that might fit your needs. Thess cells are very very easy to work with. The configuration should be 2 side by side and 5 long per Dewalt pack or close to that.

<<This new configuration, required in order to fit the Logo 500 frames, inspired me to develop a new "stick pack" construction kit, based on using some G10 spacer plates that I'm getting Andrey (AskmanAP...) to make up for me this weekend. The whole idea is to be able to make packs made up of multiples of 4 cells. The best part is that no soldering will be required, and you won't need to use the tabs, unless you want to, so loose cells can be used.>>

Hope that helps.

Do you mean the cells are laid flat instead of standing up?

This is a real pain trying to find suitable batteries for the joker 1

What batteries are people using in their maxi 1 for AP use ?
and anyone know the other dimensions for the battery compartment ie. 54x?x?

I think rerazor means like a shotgun configuration ( With four barrels, two on top of the other ) If looked at end on its like '88' I may be wrong!

Yes they will be laying "long ways" side by side but 5 long.

Like shotgun packs. I'll try to find a pic of a pack.

2 wide laying flat, 5 long.
