ive had a simular problem with a difrent type of device (which is a computer for an aquarium)i went to maplins got the same adaptor but it only worked now and again in the end i had to get the interface adaptor from the manufactorer of the device i was pluggin into cost a bit more but now my pc hooks up with the aquarium computer every time. i was told it was something to do with the software used buy the adaptor to decode the information.

I use the Maplin adapter without any problems. I did have to tell the Jetronic software which com port the adapter was on.

thanx richard,

Hope you are well, how do you find out which com port it is plugged into when it is a USB port being used?

Matt,

If my memory is correct there is something in the RS232 adapter software that allows you to choose com port number? or if you go into system and then Hardware, it may tell you there? I will link up to the Jetronic program with my Laptop after work on Tuesday and submit a post with the correct way if the above is wrong?

Matt,
did you get the Jetronic software to work? Windows should detect the adapter when you plug it in and install the drivers for it. If not? go into hardware from the system icon in XP control panel and then into comm ports and then you can find which comm port Windows has allocated. Go into the comm port settng in the Jetronic program and then you can manualy set the comm port to match.

If you have the same adapter I got from Maplin? you can download drivers from http://www.prolific.com

Hi Matt,

Hope you had good holiday? The weather here has been terrible, well at least where I am, no two days the same. Let me know how you get on with the adapter.

Hi Richard

Thanks, it worked straight away, i didn't even have to download the drivers at the site you mentioned.

It made interesting reading once i downloaded all the stats.

Matt

Ps- i only went to Guernsey! so weather was a little warmer than UK,
judging where you live i was on the Equator!
