I'm running a stock Cal5 with a 401 and have recently switched out the 9254 (Wasn't holding anymore) to a HS-6965HB. The holding power was instantly noticeable and now i can run a full 6v system

Whilst out flying i'd been having some issues with gain settings on my 9c Super and eventually had to lower the gain right down to 38% to stop the wag (2000 Headspeed with the 15t pinion). I'd had a few flights and all was OK. On the last flight i noticed the tail was acting strange so i gave it a quick right to left stick wag (Whilst hovering) and it blew out doing a full pirouette to the left at which point i managed to land it albeit rather abruptly, no damage though.

I check the belt and it seemed fine, but when i checked the tail it has a little play if twisted but seems fine. I held the tail blades whilst trying to turn the head and nothing slipped under a little force.

I'm obviously going to strip the entire tail section and check the servo throughly to make sure its ok, but wondering what known issues i should check on.

Servos don't degrade over time to where "they just stop holding" unless you've done something to damage the electronics or the motor goes bad.

You replaced the servo, only to continue to have problems.

See that your gyro mounting tape is still sound and that the gyro is mounted OK. Beyond that -- go through the gyro setup and make sure you have it right. Make sure you're always initializing it in heading hold mode (red LED comes on and stays on solid), and make sure that when you switch between flight modes that your rudder trims aren't changing.

Once you initialize the 401 in HH mode, if you change the rudder trim, you will confuse the gyro and it won't hold. Never use rudder trim with a HH gyro and make sure that your rudder trim does not change when you switch modes.

Check the 16t gear pulley, most likely gone, if it is holding under the method you described, chances are it is just holding when you tested it, I would remove both out and check them in the tail case and in the main frame.

Zero bubble....
